It's been too long since I've done it. I don't remember. I would do trial and error...add a bit and test pH, etc. 1 tablespoon sounds like a good starting point for that size tank.

ok

ive chucked in a bit of that, will test it when its gets upto temp etc, if i need to lower ph do i just add vinegar or something?

also the guy was out of stock of 200w heaters so sent me a 3oow, thats ok isn't it?

I would water change it back down. I've never tried vinegar. I would think an oversize heater would be okay...hopefully it just won't have to run as often!

water change it down, check! :D

temps are at 22C, this waiting is gonna do me in! lol

quick update!

the tank has been at 28/29C for a while now

i took an ornament and some gravel and a squeeze from my friends filter tonight

i added the ornament and the gravel to the tank, my foams and bioballs were soaked in the filter juices before placing them in the tank and i also added some gel that supposed to contain spores of good bacteria, and added a pinch of flake food

im hoping this will kickstart the cycling process and reduce it somewhat

is there anything i now need to do regularly to help this along that i have forgotten?

any help appreciated!

Dan :D

went to local hardware store today for some ammonia, gave it a shake, it bubbled up so no good to me, so i bit the bullet and chucked a little bit of my wee in there lol

will keep you posted

Here is the tank as of today!

Ive added a few things as u can see and now jus waiting for a background to come through the post before rearranging stuff how i want it etc

is the filter ok in the corner like that? Heater in the right spot?

ok, so far i have -

dechlorinated

added gravel and ornaments from an established tank

soaked my filter sponges etc in squeezings from an established filter

added a load of spore gel to the filter media

put a few flakes of food in each day

put about half a cup of urine in the tank

anyways, i tested the water this morning and although it is telling me i have very hard water, to be expected where i am to be honest, the rest of the results are as follows:

CL2 = 0
pH = 8.0
KH = 6
GH = 8
NO2 = 1
NO3 = 0

does that mean i have cycled my tank in under a week?

shall i chuck a couple of mollys in and see how they get on?

Thanks for any help

Dan

Ha! I like it. Are those just plastic models?

Yes mate plastic they are actually mine from when i was a kid lol about 25 years old and seen better days but the kids told me they wanted a star wars theme tank yet they wouldn't donate me any of their lego star wars for the project! little buggers lol

might find myself ransacking their toybin while they are asleep though lol i've got my eye on a Darth Vader mask i want to stick in as a centrepeice with plants growing through his eyes hehehe watch this space and may the force be with you!
