Am i right in thinking, that i could put a betta in a large glass goldfish bowl, as long as it is adaquatly heated?

What would i do about filtration? Just do a water change every few days?

Ally

hi ive got one of my bettas in one of those fancy large brandy glass
you can buy at the lfs ive got a bio filter in mine and a hydor heater
ive only just put filter in as i use to do 100% water changes
but its 2 heavy and i was frightened of it breaking the glass ive got a lid on top as bettas do jump

Yeah, you can use large glass goldfish bowls. Just do full water changes every couple days, and absolutely make sure you use a lid. Bettas can jump surprisingly high, and just lowering the water level isn't going to prevent them from jumping out of their bowl. As long as the temperature in the bowl stays above 70, then the fish should be fine. It's even better if you can keep it above 74.

I agree.
I keep my little Liza in a 1/2 gallon tank (this is a tad small, but was originally meant to be a hospital tank) and I do daily water changes for her. She's very tiny and will only eat peas and blood worms off a SPOON, no less, so she has to be separate, I'm guessing, her whole life. I'll move her to a bigger tank eventually, but my point for posting was just to let you know that I have successfully kept bettas at room temp (provided that it was above 72 degrees and a relatively steady temp) without filtration and they do just fine.

And do make sure you cover it.
A little footie nylon works great as long as it's on there pretty tight.
:)

I cut pieces of cardboard, or use sterilized nets off whole turkeys.

-_- I use nylons to cover my fish bowls...You know, the lady's pair that you would go out and buy for leggings. I cut the feet part off and it fits perfectly snug around just about any enclosure opening. I came across this idea with my first Betta. He used to love to jump. I used to use a cd too, but I would hear his head ping against it all the time...lol...((He wasn't a bright one))...so I used the nylon as to not have ant Betta head injuries, and it breaths well providing good ventilation. I use it on my spiderlings too...but that is for an entirely different forum...lol.

So far I've used the same half gallon bowl for my first betta and now my second betta. The first little guy lived for 4 years with us and so far so good with my new betta. Ive had him for a month now.

I only change my betta's water every 6 six days and I have had no problems, cross my fingers......but I feed sparingly too, no more than 6 baby pellets a day.

Could any of you post pictures of your bowls?

Id love another one, but we have 2 dogs and 3 cats, we would be fine as our bedroom is always locked, id rather have a tank that is sealed thou.

I wish I could show you a pic , but I don't know how to post pictures. :/

I have no heater and no filtration in my bowl.

I have a Doberman Pinscher, a Cockatiel and one Betta :)

I guess I should have stuck with dogs and cats, cuz I hate cleaning tanks , bowls or cages! :hyper:
