Houseplants in aquariums

I think you might have the same as me I cant remember the name but its not a true monsterra it just looks like it with the leaves and gets similar kind of leaves. How long did you have yours before you noticed a difference in nitrates etc?

Just come across this video - really like how he has done the external planted area by siliconing the wood to the glass. I've never had luck with silicone though as its always comes away when I've tried to do it with rocks etc so might modify the idea with wire or something? Or even screw some hooks to a piece of wood for the plants to sit on?

I noticed as soon as I tested in fairness , I always knew why I wanted them just never actually tested to justify it , before I added them I was getting 20-40ppm no3 after 7 days now I get 0.0.5 but my stocking has changed slightly and the addition on Salvinia and such I don’t known if I can pin point the monstera but of growth displays where the no3 is going . It’s all going to the monstera . I have fixed a 1.5 ft log of wood to the top of my tank , mainly by wedging it between the glass and the supports but fixed with cotton ... suprizingly it hold for my turtle and it’s made a perfect “planting attaching area “ it’s so easy to plug gaps in the wood and let them grow and it give cover for the turtle when basking , two birds one stone kind of thing . But yeah didn’t expect a monstera to adapt so well

Thats what I'm thinking of doing, due to rescape my 2 foot tank soon so might try and do the same. I have to admit I've not noticed nitrate reduction on the same scale :( I think I may just need more active plants so if I can move away from my plastic hanger to something more natural that gives me more space that would be good.

I will try and get some photos of mine but I have a dinosaur phone as I’m trying to imagine them in a 2ft rather than a 5ft and I honestly think it would just be too much , it did take months to see a real growth the justvseemed to survive but the moment they took off new leaves were common . Out of my jungle val , Salvinia, peace lily and monstera by far the monstera is the noticeable grower. I definitely recommend the log lol
