Hospital Tank

omg, i just got my 18x10x10 from P@H and while looking through the fish i spotted some silver sharks that were about an inch in size. It really isnt suprising why misguided people buy them for tanks like the size i just got. Why do these shops have to sell such young fish, i swear if they imported fish that were six months to year old half the battle of "are these fish ok for my tank?" would me made easier and common sense might actually poke its head out and say no. bleh. /rant over. :D Anyway, solid little tanks these clearseal ones, highly recommend them over the other "kids size" junk. Now i've just got to do a big cold water change and watch my corys go mental with eggs tomorrow :D
and did it come with anything???? how much was it?

yes our local P@H sell silver sharks too...saw them yesterday...i just look at all the labels under the fish now...the first fish i liked was a plec...which grew to 38cm....hmmmm i think not!

Ummm, a lid and a pot of goldfish flake and a small bottle of tetra safestart, both will be heading into the bin when i get home :) Its all i needed though, should fit nicely into the DIY stand i made for my 90 litre tank. Perfect for cory fry. :)

I picked up a T4 light for £13 from Wickes too, supposed to be a kitchen cupboard light, should be alright to light up the tank once i've screwed it to the shelf above. :good:

There's no way I'd be able to have a tank and not put fish in it lol, even if I had the space for it.

Out of the fish I plan to keep, the betta is the largest at around 7cm, and even then most of that is fins. Since I'm not keeping massive fish, shouldn't need a massive tank. If any of my fish do get ill/pregnant, I'll panic about it then. Probably buy one of those cheap plastic tanks and try and get hold of a cheap second hand filter/heater when it happens.

I know it's better to get it together sooner rather than later, but right now I'm paying out massive amounts of money for stuff, and my tank is still only sand and gravel and water. It's an expensive nothing at the moment. :p

A spare heater and filter should be got before even buying your 1st fish, they dont need to be new but it better then having your tank wiped out because of them breaking

I guess you're right. I'll keep an eye out for a cheap heater and filter, although I've still got a long list of things I still need to buy which are a bit more right now :p

If the worst did come to the worst, my nearest Pets at Home is open til 8PM during the week, and my LFS open seven days a week as well.

Just as a discussion point, if you did have a sudden heater or filter breakdown, are there any makeshift measures that could be used until shops open in the morning? I guess floating a bucket of hot water in the tank might help with keeping the temperature reasonable without causing sudden, massive changes?

Heater failing you would lag your tank with blankets, do a water change with warmer water, float a hot water bottle(not boiling) etc
