I got a Fishmate pond filter and it leaks on the connectors. Its brand new and the hose clips are as tight as they can go, but it all leaks, how rubbish!!

Anyway, the hose connectors are smooth and not barbed, which doesnt make sense, so hence the leaking.

I can not find any connectors that are barbed, size is 1" 1/4.

Any ideas where I can get some?

Does the hose fit firmly over the fittings? If the hose is loose or slightly to big this can happen when you tighten the hose down since a little of the hose may actually bubble under the clamp.

I have no experience with that filter. Any pictures?

I have a bag of filter hose size radiator clamps, most every filter with hoses gets them. They cost less than 25 cents each, available at any home improvement store.

I put new hose, another hardware store item, on a couple of Eheim canisters a while back, needed longer hose. They got the clamps. I also use them for the canister fitting on my 72 with an oscar, since the oscar likes to tear equipment apart. Unless he gets his fins on a screwdriver, he isn't ripping off the intake or spraybar, though he still tries to shove them out of the tank.

It fits over perfect, but doesnt matter how tight I do the clamp, it just leaks.

Radiator clamps, metal. Torque those babys down, if it leaks it isn't the connection that is leaking. Those clamps hold automotive cooling systems together in extremes of weather, they will hold filter hose connections.

Tighten it just past where it stops leaking, no more, you can crush plastic with them.

Thats the filter I have, the 30,000litre UV one.

I put a jubilee clip on one, it still leaks. I was worried to go too tight incase I crush the plastic fitting.

It def coming out the hose, I can see it.

I will have another go tomorrow when its light again at doing it up a little more and swap those other ones for jubilee clips.

take them apart, dry thoroughly then coat the connector in a liberal quantity of silicone and stick it all back together. leave it an hour or so and then water test it again ;)

Thats what I have done tonight.

I will test tomorrow.

I also put on all jubilee clips instead of the wire clips they had supplied.

Difference of terminology due to difference of continents. Jubilee clips & hose clamps are the same thing. They beat wire clips any day.
