A True Oddball
Hi all,
I picked up a couple of Hoplosternum yesterday from a friend, who didnt have the time to devote them. They had shown signs of spawning but due to her other fishy commitments its was a lost cause.
I am unsure which species they are, I have narrowed it down to two species, which from ready planetcatfish.com and also reading a few other sources, both species are similar in appearance and in max size.
these species are H. punctatum and H. magdalenae
Does anyone know what the specific difference are between the two species at all?
I dont have any pics at the moment, because they arent quite feeling or looking themselves as they were in with some jewel cichlids so are a little nipped. Once they are back to full health I will post a pic, but really I just need some extra info about the species differences.
the main one I can see from looking online is that H. magdalenae has a 'crack' style patterning on their heads, which leads me to believe that my cats are H. magdalenae.
thanks for any advice
