Honey gourami swimming near bottom

I have a small honey gourami that has recently started swimming near the bottom of the tank, they’re usually swimming up near the top and swimming around with my glotetras but all of the sudden they’re hiding and not coming up all that much. Should I be concerned??

What size tank (dimensions) and who is it sharing the tank with?

I have a male Dwarf and, whilst he does spend a fair bit of time up amongst the floating plant roots, he's also patrolling the rest of the tank.
When I feed the shrimp, he's quite happy to get down and dirty with them, down at the lower levels.

my Dwarf if he isnt surfing the bubble bar he is at the top breathing or sleeping in a driftwood alcove at the bottom usually

He really REALLY does need more real plants in there!

It’s a 40 gallon tank (height: 22in length: 31in width: 13in )we’ve got 6 glo tetras, 4 dwarf gouramis (the mentioned honey included) 1 pearl gourami 1 long fin pleco and 3 khuli loaches lots of driftwood and real plants too

that does seem alot of fish for a 40g but thats just my oppinion

That opens up a whole new range of possibilities.
Small gourami can be territorial and quite aggressive to each other.
With Dwarf Gourami, you'd have one male and two (or maybe three) females, so he doesn't harass one to death and spreads his attentions around, so to speak. Two or more males will fight, Even two or more females may get bolshy with each other, but with a male in the tank, this is usually less frequent an occurrence.

So what gender are your Dwarf Gourami?

And then, into that mix, with what gender of Dwarf Gourami you have, you've got a lone Honey Gourami. These are the more timid/gentle/passive of the gourami.
I now strongly suspect that your lone Honey is keeping a low profile in an attempt to avoid being bullied.

NOTE that the Pearl is a harmless sort.
