some things I've seen are

clay pot "houses"
pvc tunnels
coconut shell huts/caves

anything made of clay pots and PVC will be fine aslong as the "glue" you use is silicone. slate is good too, pile them up with a gap at the bottom and you have a cave, you can cover it in sand/gravel and you have a hidden cave (you fish can plot against you in there  ) MWHahahaha

!!!!! Silicone !!!!!!

Make sure its "Aquarium Silicone" and not the type used on building sites or for car maintenance.

FW Aquascapes FAQ

Using ceramic glazed objects in freshwater aquariums
Dear Bob,
<Julie>
I have read your FAQ about DIY objects for your aquarium. I saw two different answers. One said that you shouldn't put
glazed objects in your aquarium. The other answer said that you can add glazed objects in an aquarium.
Can you pleases help me out here. I like to add fire glazed objects with my tetra's,
thanks for the help,
Julie
<All ceramics that have been glazed that I have ever heard of are safe for aquarium use. The glazing process renders the pieces chemically inert... so they do NOT influence water quality. Bob Fenner>

He also says that acrylic paints are okay, but probably won't hold up well without being glazed.

if anyone else have more ideas please do tell!
thanks again.

I saw yesterday that someone crated a whole big rock formation covering the whole tank which had many different levels and caves, they made it out of that foamy stuff and like dyed/ painted it. It looked really good it was for shell dwellers.
