hi i have to go away for 8 days and i need to know wether my fish will be ok food wise ie will they survive with no food i do have live plants in the tanks, but i can only find the feeder blocks that last for 2 days
thanks

When i go away for around a week, the fish just dont get fed.....safer than asking someone who has no idea to feed them for me lol

8 days will be fine, they will find something to munch on while you're away. I've always stayed clear of those feeder blocks though, don't trust them.

One thing to add, I always do a slghtly bigger than normal water change the day before I go. I also have a neighbour who looks after the cat when we are away and she checks on the tank to make sure everything is ok and has a list of instructions should anything fail. (I hide the food to remove any temptation she might have to feed the fish!!)

Just get one of those Sunday through Saturday pill holder things that people use. Put however much food you would have fed in the compartment for each day, and then someone just has to open it and dump it in the tank. That's what I was planning to do when I leave. Hope that makes sense.

One week is perfectly fine to not feed your tank stocking.

As already mentioned, do a water change before you leave and feed them as normally.

I have done this several times in the past, never had any issues.

This is what i do as my son has to almost pass our house to get to work. He doesn't call in every day but a couple of times a week. I leave the food in those pill holders, one for each tank, and when he calls in he empties one compartment into each tank.

My son knows better than to add extra food but hide the food tubs so they can't give extra if you don't trust the person.

I like jag's suggestion on the pill holder and get someone to feed them every few days, even though I know they can go for a week without.
