Hob Filters...

haha that was my next stop..i was planning on posting something..haha i always want to post something then end up reading all these other things from other people.
..but i gotta see this.

I like that plan with the piping...

I thought up a quick plan and minght make one for the 200L...
Filtersystem.jpg

make an undergravel frame out of pvc pipe and have an opening in each of the corners apart from where the water comes back in and put a strainer on each of them giving a spread out of the water intake... could drill out a rock/piece of wood/coconut shell to cover them from view.

put a rock on the pipe on each corner to hold it down :)

it'd be nice if a smart person would get on here and tell us if this is possible

cause in my thinking..it seems like it might not work because the tube will have all those other intakes, it won't have enough pull to pull water through them all well..maybe it doesn't make a difference...i'm not really sure..
ugghh..i can't really think of a good way to explain it..
like, imagine using your mouth to siphon something..now imagine that siphone having a bunch of other inlets making it up..that means water has to be dragged in/up each inlet..wouldn't that make you have to suck a lot harder?
haha pretty stupid analogy. but i can't think of anything else..
maybe as long as the inlets are on the same level they will get equal pull..
also..it wouldn't really work right if the tubes were the same size would it? like imagine 4 branched out tubes connecting to one single tube the same size..so you would have 4x the amount of water as the original tube.

ugh..i dunno wait till next year after i have fluid dynamics :p

It might be a problem for the hob but im going to try it on my external :p tank is 200L and filter is rated 300L

Now where can get some tubing from?
would it better to get it from homebase/B&Q rather than a LFS

:p I've just ordered 4000mm of 13mm clear tubing off ebay for a whopping £11

let us know what you do!
hob filters are the cheapest for me (i think..except for sponge) and easiest to deal with so i'd like to keep using them. but i'm understanding more and more the advantages to better filtration. so keep us posted on how it goes!
