Hob Filters...

saw some on ebay for £9.99 and run at 600lph would they be any good on a 60 and 70L tank?

Do they need alot of work to fit(cutting hood)?

I like the fact theres only a little pipe in the tank.

for that size tank i wouldnt recommend it. for a smaller tank they can be good i have found

Yes, this filer hangs on the side/back/front of the tank.

You might have to modify the hood, but I would need to see a picture of your hood to tell you or not.

theres nothing really wrong with them but they are quite cheaply made

also the intake is right next to the out put so a high percentage of water coming out gets pulled in again. if you put a piece of tubing and stick it in the opposite corner of the tank it will overcome this problem

Thats true, but its also true for all HOB filters.

But I like your idea, you can put a piece of tubing below the output to redirect the water.

i was reffering to all HOB filters when i said that. i have a differnt one and use that tubing idea.

Yeah, I think when I get my 55 gallon tank going, I am going to do that tube idea as well.

Seems like a good plan.

I was also thinking about drilling some holes in the tube to allow the water to come out at different points in the tank.

thats a good idea, i think their main problem is circulation. for a tank like 55gal i would be tempted to get a powerhead as well

i forget if i read about this somewhere..or just dreamed it up..
but i was thinking of something like this

where the pipe intakes end up at the bottom of your tank..problem would be your substrate would probably end up falling in.
also there probably wouldn't be enough pull to pull through multiple intakes like that..maybe if you got a much larger size hob than suggested...i dunno..just seems kinda cool..
