was hanging about pets at home day b4 yesterday,it was really busy in the fish section, but was listening to one guy in particular chatting to his mate about fish etc, and he really knew what he was talking about...so i interupted " couldnt help overhearing...." i expliained that id just moved here,,and just bought a new tank and didnt know any decent LFS etc so would have to fishless cycle my tank, i " enquired "about the filters he was using and yes when he told me i cheekily asked him if i could have a bit of his media..he was nice about it and said yes of course i could, gave me his mobile number and i went later in the afternoon and gave me a chunk of sponge out of his external ( no idea what brand it was..green thing) took some cutting down to size to get it to fit this U4 filter tho  ..anyway... went back to the fish shop that he had recommended ,and got my fish...just done a small water change as im waiting for my testing kit to arrive from ebay ( tubes got smashed in the move from my last one) so im guessing levels at the moment :shout: but im sure it`ll be fine :)

anyway the out come is i have my fish :D ive made 2 new friends ( craig and another woman who i gave advise to when i realised she was buying one of everything in the shop to put in a new tank --- yes i gave her the site address ;) )

so im starting to feel a little more positive about being here now, although i still miss him :( even the kids have said im happier, and lets face it, if mama aint happy, aint nobody happy ;)

im just waiting for the batts on the camera to charge and ill get some pics on,,

any advise is more than welcome :)

Glad things are looking up for you Shelagh, you deserve to be happy again.

Hi, Shelagh,
glad things are looking up and you're settling in, and you're HERE.
Now that you have fish again, life's worth living after all, isn't it?

cheers all :)

theres angels, danios, platys, mollies, clown loaches , they all seem very happy, tho i have noticed the angels are last to the food, ill get some blood worm this morning for them see if that will cheer them up, but they are at the front of the tank now rather than behind the filter,so thats a good sign :)

decor needs "something" but not sure what, and the heater needs to be moved, but its getting there

opene eyes and sees an angelfish in the pic ooops lol

:) hia mark.... 6 months.. hmmm  ive been scouring the ads like an idiot hoping for a large tank, nothing came up yet tho.. paitence is the key.. says she that was willing to mug for mature media

sorry about the pic quality, its actaully looking quite nice from here, not sure about the backing at all tho, but wanted something on it b4 i filled it and was all i could get at the time, going up to maiden head aq one day next week so ill see what i can get hold of :)

The tanks looking good!!

Best advice I can give is dont ever buy fish from pets at home! lol

My local pets at home is rubbish, the fish aren't looked after properly and always seem to have diseases.

I use this place which is in bradford, so great for anyone near bradford or leeds which is where I am.

Not sure if i'm allowed to post the link as I'm new to this forum so I apologise if I'm not, please remove it: http://www.qssaquarium.com

I find each pets @ home seems to vary, the one in Aberdeen can be good at times but thier tanks are a real mess just now,the one in dundee whenever i have been in has always been clean and i'v never had a problem with fish from there.

hia hawkins, theyre all still in Dundee mate :( i couldnt bear moving them i was ao worried something would go wrong so i rehomed them.. day day and jambo went to the same guy and he adores them both.. it was the right thing to do im sure i just miss jambo like mad :(

i bought one of my baby oscars in pets at home in dundee ( sen) and had a huge row with the manager there over the 2 oscars he has in a display tank, and have been for over a year ( due to the price)
pets at home here seem ok`ish.. tho crap advice, i ws talking to one of the guys in there and my 13 yr old said" mum dont start an arguement-- just after he told me to let my tank stand for 7 days b4 adding fish :/--- i said i wasnt arguing just stating facts, to which the guy replied, well im not going to win this one as i only know what they tell us!! ( i went on to explain cycling and it just went right over hs head... even coming from a thicko like me lol.). i often see dead fish in the tanks, and others snacking, tho i havent seen signs of illness, the boys that run the fish bit seem nice enough to talk to , but not knowledgeable in anyway regarding fish at all... the companies fault not theirs i might add, but i dont want this to turn into yet another PAH bashing thread, so ill leave it there :)

ooh while im here ideas for stocking the few final fish would be good

200L
9 platys
4 mollies
10 zeb danios
2 large angels
3 clown loaches (very small at the moment, and will be moved into a large tank when they get bigger )
2 bolivian rams ( i think thats what they are tho they were labeled as golden rams.. or was it the other way round)
a few plants in there, tho looking to increase this soon

the filter is a U4, 1000lph.. wanting to upgrade to tetratec 600 tho, just cos i like them, and got on really well with the last ones i had
