Hiya all, just thought I introduce myself. I'm 29 and live near Watford, Hertfordshie.

I joined recently but been lurking around on the forums up till now. I have just got into fishkeeping after buying a house before christmas, have been renting the last 5 odd years and were not allowed any pets of any sort :(. First thing the missus asked for was pets so brought her a couple of gerbils for christmas which she adores. Anyways my Juwel Vision 180 arrived yesterday morning after waiting a month or so for a chance to go out and actually buy the tank. Was going to buy from seapets but iffy about ordering online and my LFS matched the seapets price with free delivery. Have set the tank up and started to cycle it. Not sure what I'm going to put in it yet tho... I have a rough idea of maybe some Gourami's, Danio's and possibly a small catfish of somesort.

I also brought a couple of large Mopani Wood deco's for the tank but since I've brought them have found mixed opinions about the wood online. Currently got them soaking in a couple of buckets whilst the tank matures. Apart from the leeching of tannins is there anything else to worry about from the wood ???

:hi: to the forum :)
Nice to see another local person to me, im in borehamwood, just down the road from you :)
the tannins will leach out after a few weeks there should be no other problems with it.

Welcome to the site Gryphon. I have the same setup as u! I love mine. I bought mine from an older couple who had it for 5 months for £100! You will not be disappointed with your choice.

Thanks Kewskills and Omen for the kind welcome :)

Whats your experience been like with LFS kewskills I have to say I'm not impressed with World Of Water in Watford. First time I went there their lifestock tanks were in awful condition with dead fish and inverabate limbs floating in the tanks, second time I went I notced some fish with white spot and a mates guppies he brought from there recently are dying and taking some of his other fish with them. Only other fish stockist been to in the local area is Shoots outside stanmore, so any advice on decent LFS would be greatly appreciated.

Omen I love my set up, I've put in a black substrate into my tank which looks really good in the tank. Still debating if I should put rocks into the tank along with the Mopani Wood and plants I'll eventually put in when it matures.

I live in Gloucester and my local LFS is Aquatic Habitat and Aquajardin and both have incredible tanks and stock. Aquajardin has never disappointed me. They are very dear though. I found a new place in Bishops Cleave called Reel Reefs which had the best selection of marine stock I've seen in these parts. I just went there yesterday and spent 2 hours looking. Tiny shop but alot of stock!

I never recommend Pets at home under any circumstance, I feel those places should be burned to the ground because of the animal situations I have seen in them. I am surprised they are allowed to trade.

Mine is a black ash cabinet and black tank as well. I posted a photo in another post of it but will include it in this one for you as well. I can't wait til you can post some photos for us.

I believe there is a Aquatic Habitat opening up fairly close to me, so may have to check that out.

I really wanted a marine set up but the costs involved are enormous 0__0 , may save up for one but that be years down the line or maybe a nano reef at some point in the near future.

One of the best fish shops I ever been to and I maybe biased here as its in my hometown. Plus was place where my parents used to take us for trips when we were little. Is the Goldfish bowl in Oxford, I been back recently as it happens with my Mum just before I moved to the new house, and thats what re-sparked my interest in fishes. One of my clearest memories of the Goldfish bowl was a cat fish which was called flipper ( 90% sure on that fact), it was a redtail catfish and it was a good metre long and lived in a huge tank at the back. Sadly he died long ago :( and they could never sell damn thing because he would refuse to eat till he was taken back to the shop. Gorgous fish he was.

Unfortunately don`t think I have space for one of them in the tank lol.

I am just on their website now lol , looks impressive, how reasonably priced are their stock?

I am about an hour away so I just might venture out this weekend to have a look.

Tell you truth I cannot remember the price of the Tropicals as I was gazing longingly at their marine section.
They rated no#4 by the pratical fishkeeping magazine and they have a very large selection of fish there. Only prices I remember are the marine Flame Angelfish were around £80.00.

:hi: to the forum and fishkeeping! We're basically renting also but we're allowed pets. The only thing I'm waiting for in my own house is a BIGGER tank! That's a few years away yet.
Glad to have you here! Good luck!
