Has anyone any idea of how to lower the temp of my tank during the summer?

I have had the same problem, I have know way of cooling it down more than about a degree. What I do is close the curtain closest to the tank, open the window and hope for the best.

if you've got an airconditioner, turn it on, it could help a bit, maybe some water changes with cool water too

If your room temp don't go lower than 26 C/79 F then you should turn your heater off, If you have AC then it would help to cool down your tank....

When my tank was too warm the other day, I dropped a few ice cubes in it. That helped a little. If I was going to be using 'em a lot, I'd make up a tray of dechlorinated-water ice cubes especially for the fish tank.

Other than that, I dunno. This is the first summer I've had fish tanks.

You can use fans on the water surface to help dissipate heat, and also if money is not a problem there are always chillers. Besides dont you peope have A/C.
most fish will be fine at high temps in the summer alot of the time in their native habitats they are exposed to extremes of both levels. So dont worry about it.

what temp is your tank getting up to....most tropical fish are fine up to about 84....i know we dont get real high temp in michigan but it gets at least mid 90's here and i have nevr had any prob s with the temp getting above 84.....and i have heard ice cubes are bad to add because of them be frozen they give of soemthing i forget what it is called but is bad for your fish....

dont u guys have heaters which u can turn the temp down

I think the problem occurs when the room temperature is high. Even with the heater unplugged the tank water temperature will remain high until the room temperature drops.

I've had this problem this year. I unplugged the heater, restricted the time the lights were on, kept the room cool by drawing curtains and opening windows, and added blocks of dechlorinated ice to the filter housing to ensure there were no sudden temperature changes.

I would have used an airconditioner, but as I'm a student I can't quite afford the £2-300 for a decent one.
