My PH is 8.0 and my Carbonate is off the scale and my water is very hard..Is this gonna effect the fish?

How are you measuring the pH, kH, and gh?

Is the water tested from your tap?

Some fish appreciate hard, high pH water. If you want to bring the level down you can add RO water with your tap water to bring down the values.

Measuring with Tetra test. Ive tested water from my tap and tank, the carbonate in tap water is on the chart, ph is still 8. RO? Whats that?

R/O is reverse osmosis water. It is water that is forced through various membranes in order to remove minerals and chemicals from the water.

What fish are you keeping?

Not too sure yet. Probably Tetras, Guppies. Small community fish really..

Ah, in that case you have the chance to set up your tank with fish that either don't mind or actively like hard alkaline water.

Livebearers, such as guppies, mollies, swordtails and platies prefer it that way (in fact, may mollies prefer brackish water). Many rainbow fish also like hard alkaline water.

Also, many African cichlids like it that way, but they would require a special setup rather than your ordinary community.

Lots of commonly sold fish don't mind this type of water: danios, bristlenose plecs, many corydoras, many gouramis etc.
