Hi I have had the tank up 7 running for about 3 weeks now, the levels are all fine apart from the nitrite which is reading about 2.0 on my API Test kit, I know Stress Zyme & salts can reduce this but how much of each should I put in a 65ltr tank, i.e salts & stress zyme?

Have done a huge water change but no joy with it reducing :(

Appreciate any help I can get!!!!

Thanks :good:

Salt will keep the fish from getting nitrite poisoning. Doeses vary from 1 teaspoon per 10g to 1 tablespoon per 10g. Most fish will not be bothered by either dose. Don T.

only goldfish in the tank? and its one level teaspoon per gallon and twelve hours or so later another level teaspoon per gallon brining it to .2%...once the nitrites spike falls then do a few small water changes to get rid.

So based on my tank size (65l) & converting litres to gallons I would have to add about 13 teapsoons....???

I have a couple of fancies, tanks been up n running for about 4 weeks now but still no decline, seems to stay at around 2 according to my drop test, all other readings are fine though...

yes for the first dose. make sure you dissolve it first and its not normal table salt. then add slowly.

Thanks, its the tonic salts, got them from the shop where I got the fish, have added a few already but didnt put 13 in as I wasnt sure that was right at the time & didnt want them dying on me!!

Thanks again for your help, will let you know how it goes :good:

Yep, I did a 50% water change today, Nitrite reads about 1 & Nitrate is reading 0 & it seems my fantail isnt a happy boy...

nitrate should have a reading in a cycled tank, even non cycled theres nearly always nitrate in the water. take a glass of tap water and test the nitrate level...nh3
your tank is still probably going through the cycle so will fluctute a bit. this will take about 6 weeks tops. if it gets above 1 for nitrites do water changes as and when required to bring it under 1
