Can anyone please offer me any advise regarding high nitrate levels, I recently bought a API test kit and all the test were good except the nitrate which was 80ppm. My tank is not over stocked and I am very careful about over feeding too so was unsure of the cause. I looked at many forums and yesterday decided to (as advised on one of the forums) did a 50% water change then followed by a 30% water change vacuum the gravel and when I tested the nitrate after and it was still 80ppm, I then decided to leave it and do it again today letting everything settle and go through the filter but again today its still sitting at 80ppm. Im really concerned about it and frustrated too as I don't know where im going wrong. I have a Juwel 190n tank with an adequate filter for this tank, I take out any plant debris etc so im at a loss at the moment and any help would be gratefully received.

Many thanks

Sarah

Have you tested your tap water as you may find that the nitrates are high straight from the tap. For reasons why you shouldn't worry too much read the topic about nitrates about 5 posts below yours, that explains quite a bit. Not being rude but I I can't be bothered to do all the typing again
