Evening,

Previous fish keeper now looking at getting back into the hobby.
I have a son who Is interested in getting some fish and so I have been scouring the net trying to get up to speed on current thoughts and info.
So far I have decided I am looking at a tank about 70 lts to contain some tetras and cherry shrimp I think. Planted with some easy to care for plants with a sand substrate.
I found a guide on practical fishkeeping talking about using aquatic soil underneath for planting into, but see on here there are people who feel this isn't necessary so am undecided on that bit.
Also need to look at filters as unsure what route to go for that, internal/ external, any help would be appreciated.
Are there any online shops that are particularly recommended for plants?

with a tank like 70l, a HOB filter will be good, shrimp and tetras like flow
there's no need for any special substrate, all substrates are good, i personally like sand because you can keep plants in it easier

Tropica are about the best over here for unsnailed and non chemical drenched root plants. Plus they sell em in your local PAH which I’d imagine you have a lot of around your way. Though it does tend to be the same 7 or 8 types in every store. Find out delivery day to grab the best though brexits made it all a bit hit and miss.
