Hi all, im matt, im from near Peterborough Cambs,

I had a coldwater tank (2ft x 1ft) when i was about 10 and i loved it, had blackmoors and fantails in it and i had it till i moved out at 23 and gave it to a family friend.

Now my son who is 10 months old loves watching fish in tanks when we go out to garden centres etc, So i went out and got a orca tank (1.5ft x 1.5ft) off a mate for 50 quid !

Thought i would start a tropical set up, liking some small fish that a fast and bright in colour , Last night i fully cleaned the tank up and binned all his old rocks etc, cleaned the sand out ready for my new stuff!

Been out and got some gravel and new rocks , so will be looking for some advice on some live planting so i can get it set up in the next couple of evenings, get the water right and go fish shopping!

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Welcome! And good luck with your tank. There are plenty of resources here for you to get going. Check the beginners resource section within the New Tank section for cycling info and while that's going, you can have some fun sorting out your stocking with your son. Going through a full fishless cycle with him will be very educational.

Best of luck!

Thanks,
Steve

hi, Yeah ive never cycled a tank before im just reading it now,

Its not a massive tank but im planning on installing a custom made one in a couple years in my dining room to the full width of the room. im also planning sticking a coldwater tank in my floor

looking at plants and the debate fake vs real too!

Well there will be plenty of time to get all the little things worked out. Make sure you check out the planted section to see some amazing tanks.

Thanks,
Steve
