hi. New to this forum. Been browsing it for a month of so, just didn't get around to registering.

Only relatively new to tropical fish keeping, although have kept danios before.

At the moment i have a 107L tank.

Spent a while setting it up and i'm very happy with the outcome.

The only thing I paid for was the tank, heater and filter. Rest was sourced/ diy'ed. I will get a digi camera so I can show you all the results.

ATM i am interested in Rainbow Fish (native to AU and Papua New G).

I have stocked the tank with:
3 danios (pearl -> nice colour)
3 neon tetra's (more colour)
1 Dwarf Neon Blue Rainbow (wanted more but were out of stock)
2 Honey Gouramis

Used gravel (red), however wish I had of used sand, however I paid enough for my Eheim 2200 Filter and didn't want it stuffed.

Have a few nice (sourced locally) rounded/flat stones to form a kind of "rock pyramid) and to top it off, one of the nicest peices of driftwood you will see (had it for about 5yrs). I only washed the driftwood for a short period of time so my water had a red/brown tinge as I feel this looks more appropriate/natural.

Have 3 live plants, and they seem to be doing fine, well the 2 grassy types aren't growing to quick.

A bit about myself. I am 20, from Brisbane in AU. I am a Biotechnology(bioinformatics) student at University of Queensland in my 3rd year. I am hoping to do research in schizophrenia, and also would like to look at the gentics of fish, especially as the Zebra Fish genome has been sequenced.

Anyway, that's enough. See you around
Mitch

:hi: to the forum - I'm very glad that you joined!
Rainbow fish are wonderful - what are your tank dimentions - several of the rainbowfish require some good "running room".?
Go ahead and change the gravel to sand - you just turn off your filter when you are cleaning and adding it. Lots of folks here have it, including me and it looks great - it is even easier to clean once you get the hang of it. Just search through past posts about changing over to sand for some great information. :)
Many of the grassy plants require 3 watts per gallon or more - that may be why they aren't doing so well...

And I'm thrilled that you want to work on schizophrenia! There is still so much to understand and so many people suffer with this - schizophrenia and autism hold so many folks hostage - you've chosen a great thing to work on!
