I have only just today set up a tank with sand and bogwood, so I know it can be a pain to change, but looks so much better afterward.

Yep that's about my price range! lol  they would be ideal.

I will keep looking, I think for now I will just have to concentrate on the fish and/or the sand and possibly some wood/stone until next payday :good:

Welcome to the forum Kaz & the addictive world of fish keeping!! .
I had 8 tigers in a 2.5ft tank (120 litte) along with some lemon & beacon tetras, some harlequin rasboras & an an albuno briatle nose plec with no problems. Tigers are
Fine in groups of at least 6-8 IMO. You could have a mix of normal tigers, green & albino tiger barbs (as i do in my 5ft tank!!). They are awesome fish, very fun to watch their little spats with one another and are quite tough (hardy) fish so thumbs up all round for me!! .
If its an undergravel filter you should have plates with slats in that fit the whole bottom of yiur tank with the tibe sticking out for your airline? Personally i woildnt use these with sand as it tends to get stuck in the filter or sucked up causing no end of problems. Bettwr with gravel with these dilters, ive found anyway.
As already said, backgrounds & decoration are to personal taste so fill your boots and play arou d as much as you like. Felt sorry for my fish when i started as think my hands were in the tank as much as they were!!! Lol.
Well hope you enjoy & get your tank perfect.
Oh, im assuming your tank is fully cycled, etc? Worth reading the cycling section, just for understanding if nothing else.
Also, save up & try to gwt a liquid testing kit as it will help you & tour fish out no end.
Happy fishing!!

Hi Dazzler666 thanks for the welcome, and you're right, this fishkeeping business is certainly addictive! lol

Yep I have the underground filter just as you described which fits the whole of the bottome of the tank and a tube with an airline/airbrick inside :good: I'm still wanting to change to sand though, at the moment I have gravel which is white with fluorescent orange/gree/blue/red stones which I hate, I will try the sand and keep an eye on my filter, if it gets clogged I will change back to gravel.

Yep my tank is fully cycled, I've had the set up about 8 months now ( I think ) and do a 20% water change every 2 weeks.

I know what you mean about having your hands in the tank more than the fish! lol

Another question, up until now, I've only fed my fish on flake ( I have platys and a japanese fighter before current fish ) should I be feeding them on anything else?

Errrr..... I take it UGF is Ugly Gravel Foofoo! :D :S I have a square filter box in the other corner which has a woolly stuff and charcoal in, is that what you mean? :)

yes if you put a filter sponge in there (you can see them in LFS's) you may have to let it cycle again. but it should support the fish.

you can see the type of filter i use in this tank (to the right of the photo)
