im not sure how you wash rice but with sand

*half fill a bucket with sand
*fill with water
*stir it up
*let it settle for about 30 secs
*pour water off
*repeat until the water is clear and the sand settles quickly. i normally give it ~10 secs for it all to settle if it doesn't i keep washing

do you need both filters? iv never needed to use an under gravel filter i find the internal's work fine :good:

Yep that's just how I wash my rice (in a saucepan though, not a bucket! lol)

Well I have an airstone inside the long tube which screws to the undergravel plate and I assumed this was an undergravel filter, but to be honest I've been wondering how it works? Maybe I'm just running the airstone but inside a tube for no reason?

super glues easier than tying as well :good: you can go out and get your own wood as well if your carfull to clean it and soak it

id add it to a weak bleach solution and let it sink by tying a brick to it if it was me (might take awhile)

Bogwood looks good with plants on , try getting jern fern or anubias these need to be tied onto bogwood instead of in the substrate

thanks Harlequin I'm goint to an Aquatics centre tomorrow, so will have a look at some displays, get some ideas :good:

Mike - is superglue safe to use?? Also I'm not sure about looking for my own wood, I would probably end up with some kind of toxic old tree root :S

use oak or any dead wood. i think iv used hawthorn in my tank as well.. anything which has sticky sap avoid but fruit tree's are good

super glue i safe if its 100% cyrolithgt ( cant spell it but it begins with cy)

hmmm ok will look out for that, then. Also I have a printed background, would a blue background be better?

that choice is 100% down to you personally i like black backgrounds. (bin bags do the trick nicely) :good:

LED's are the way forward i would of got one of them if i knew about it :good: but im happy with my T5 lighting does the job for me if not over does it for my plants

I have this LED light on some of my smaller tanks and it's nice and bright.

Hi Salam

thanks

that looks great, but I have a hood on my tank (need it because I have a cat! lol) I could do with somehting that will fit under the hood.

thanks Mike, I think black would just make my tank darker :(

The blue background will make your fish stand out more but I think will ruin the natural effect. (If the background is some form of plant picture.) :good:

Yes, sorry mine are only without hood. Hope you find something else. Maybe look on local FB groups? Gumtree?

just do a quick ebay search. there about 20~ but you'd have to buy the tube :good:

Hi panda_cory
thanks

I know what you mean, it will look more 'shop display' and yeh the background I have dark planting, but the other side is lighter, more like a vivarium background, so I'm going to change it round )
