Hi - Im New !

Welcome to the board.
Don't overstock the tank, only small fish as its only a 12 gallon.
The likes of black neon tetra, neon tetra, really small tetra that don't grow to big.
Harlequins, livebeares, no sharks.
I would advise a fishless cycle.

oooh dear !

I seem to have done the obvious - 2 sharks and a siamese fighter amongst 6 neons and 2 guppies !

The tanks been running for about 2 years with various casualties !

Algae is a problem (its not in direct light) is that due to overstocked ???

hi, welcome to the forum!

i think you know now, but just in case you don't, the sharks need to go. ASAP.

algae may be due to overstocking, if you increase your water change frequency and add some/more live plants, you should see an improvement. No need to buy algae eating fish....your guppies will nibble at the algae, and you don't have space in your tank for another fish anyway.

hope this helps, merry.
