I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm 24 years old. I live in Pennsylvania, USA. My name is Ray. I have a 30 gal saltwater fish only tank and a 55 gal freshwater tank. Nice to meet you all.

:hi: Rayne, to TFF and the salty side of the forum, very nice to meet you :good:

Can we hear a bit about your tank, your plans and see some photos

Well, I have been keeping freshwater for about a year and a half. I have been keeping saltwater for only around 6-8 months. I am starting to learn everything slowly.

My saltwater is enjoyable. It has a lot of work to go. Just waiting on money lol. Being a 25-30 gal tank I do not have enough LR in it. I only have about 9LBS. You will all hate me, but I have a few fake plants in it lol. I want to get rid of them someday and add some pretty aquatic plants. However, I will need to upgrade to a better light. I currently have a standard one bulb fish tank light. I still love my tank  . It currently contains two clown fish, one yellow tail damsel, a coral band shrimp, a blue legged hermit, and i saw a couple baby starfish in there the other day :) . Someday, I would like to try my hand at a reef tank. They are just so beautiful. Before that I have a lot to learn. I do not know many types of fish and systems at all.
I have pics but cant figure out how to post them yet.

Get yourself a free photobucket account, upload your photos and then cut and paste the code they give you :good:

Maybe we can help you move on with your tank :good:

Here are some pics of my saltwater tank. Not as fancy as some of yours, but this is just the beginning.

LOL i had that same green plastic plant in my 20 gallon fresh a looong while ago, they get covered in **** so clean every oncein awhile if the CUC doesnt :good:

I plan on switching my tanks. Convert; I guess its a 29 gal sorry do not know liters lol; into the fresh water tank. I then want to make my 55 gal which is currently my fresh water into my salt water. On the 55 gal I have a whisper 30-60 and a Penn-plax Cascade 600 internal filter available. I would like to get glass coverings for the tank and upgrade the lights...not sure what im new to this....reef keeping will come in the future maybe a couple years. So, I want lighting that will promote that pretty coraline algae and maybe an anemone or two and other small easy to keep plant types. The switch will happen in a few weeks when the money is available.

Hello there! Cute tank you have going.

Just a word with the anemones, make sure you read up plenty on them! They need a mature tank with very good and stable water parameters. Their lighting requirement is also very similar to what corals will need.

Welcome to TFF :D

Ok Ray, so you are planning for the 55 gallon, is that uk or US gallons?

And remember, live rock is the heart and lungs of a reef tank and most other fish only with live rock tanks - get that right and you will be on your way. Take things slowly, mistakes can be very costly over on this side  both money and live stock wise.

That is US gallons. Thats all I know lol. I plan on taking it slow. At first it will just be filled will LR and the current fish that I have. Then over time and research I will build up to more.

Cool :good:

you have approx 208 litres so will need approx 23 k of live rock to filter the tank - what lighting are you thinking of?

I really do not know. I have had fresh water for bout 2yrs..However, I have not made myself learn anything lol. Now, that I'm a bit older I am finally ready to get serious. I just have to learn, that is why I came here. Ya'll seem like a knowledgeable group. Any suggestions and how much is 23k in lbs lol. I think the last time I used the metric system was in junior high/middle school.
