Hi Got Some Slate Its Roofing Slate

hi there is the roofing slate ok for fish tanks going to make some caves for my bns

i have got some distilled malt vineger cldnt find no white vineger

done a test with the vineger and it does bubble

as shown in pic

i dont know if this is the right vineger tho but no bubbles coming up after 5mins leaving it on there as shwon in pics

let us kno if this is ok or wrong vineger thx

if its been used on a roof its no good if it hasnt you be ok with it

ps when you get more slate dont get the green slate it dyes your tank green

Best bet is to bleach it and put it in boiling water. This will kill all the nasties if there are any. From the pics looks very clean and unworn so a good chance its not been used on a roof. Ive just had to try masonary for the 1st time to sut down a huge chunk of slate i have to make decent spawnng sites, worked out well tho!

they are big pieces when i got given them they looked like they was left out side
when i got them a wash them in hot water but they did look clean

just thought i ask abt them
as was going to make some caves out of them i dont know if you can see in pics but they are big pieces abt 2ft long and bit smaller top to bottom

AS i said bleach them and put in boiling water give them a good scrub and they should be fine!

it doesnt look like its been used, it will be fine, when i used some of my slate i just put it in a bucket and poured near to boliling water on it, that surley will kill any harmful bacteria

if the pieces are too big use a large sink or a bath

i use roof slate after one of our tiles fell off not had any problems as yet

you can use all the chimcals in the world to clean used roof slate and still wont clean it over the years the crao in the rain etc etches into the slate and slowly relises it into your tank

i learned the hard way not knowing what was going wrong and lost alot of fish

go to your gardencentre and you can buy lumps of slate for couple of quid then just split it and looks more natural and better
