Hi all,
My bf has had a tank for a long time, but this is my first. It is a 30g tank and I presently have 2 blue platies, one orange and black play, one white and orange platy, a blue guppy and an African dwarf frog. i have 2 types of liveplants (rooted) and several rock/ decorations. joined this formto learn more as one of the blue platies in a pregnant female.

Hello and welcome to the forum, we will always be here to help, you'll love it when you platie gives birth, when you come home or walk over to the tank to see little fry all over it will be a moment you'll always remember

Thanks for the welcome I was very excited when my platy had fry and counted them each morning and again in the evening. unfortunately we lost them to an aggressive fish that was added tot he community (obviously at wrong time :( , a lesson learned) she appears to pregnant again and I am trying to prepare before the fry come this time

Hello there! So you're a Newfie but live in Nova Scotia? I've visited both a long time ago, lived in the Maritimes for 4 yrs myself (New Brunswick). In Gander I was introduced to the Newfie Dish called Jigg's Dinner, I'm sure you know it too, lol! In Halifax we walked around the harbour, there was this board walk going on forever, it's beautiful there!

Your platy will be having fry constantly while you are still having males in her company. Even 6 months after you remove her from the male she can still give birth, they have this nifty ability to store sperm, lol! So, if you want fry, you could easily set her up in a 5 - 10 gallon by herself and remove her after she gave birth, she will eat her own babies if you leave her in with them. :-(

Make sure you change the babies' water every day, it will ensure a good survival rate, and they will grow a lot quicker if the water quality is pristine! If the filter does not have a sponge over it, you should put a new, washed out stocking over the filter intake so the fry don't get sucked into the filter!
I hope you have a plan in place what to do with all those babies, lol! Good luck! :good:

Always wanted to visit "new scotland", think i'l just stick to old scotland for now :hyper:

Hello and welcome to the forum!!! all the best with your fry!
