Hey everyone.

I'm new here, my name is Mary from Australia. I've always wanted to have a puffer fish, so I decided to build up to it. After being able to manage coldwater I decided to try a tropical community tank, and since thats been going well I decided to see how I go looking after some more agressive fish. Thats pretty much why I'm here, firstly because I'm fascinated with the fishkeeping hobby, and secondly because I made a HUGE mistake that ended up in death of my dwarf Gourami. I purchased a tiny Gold Edge Rivulatus yesterday and thought since it was tiny it would go well in my community tank, I don't think I need to say more. I feel horrible and really want to learn more, so I hope you guys don't mind having another novice around. Oh, and concerning the Rivulatus, I rang back the aquarium and asked them to take it off my hands so my fish don't die, and I let them keep the money, I think thats the decent thing to do until I learn more.

I am in a similar situation as I have not even got my first fish!!!! What is see is we can share comments and wha a tragedy!!! Any thoughts on my purchases???

Welcome to the forum Mary.
There are indeed several very experienced people here to help you get through tough spots. There are also a lot of people like you who are fairly new to the hobby, so not everything you read is going to be perfect. In our own areas of expertise, each of the more experienced people tends to step in if things go far astray but we are only human and miss things too. Please check the answers a bit before taking any advice as correct. Some areas are the subject of some controversy and each person seems to staunchly defend their own point of view. Unfortunately you had to learn the hard way that size does not constitute compatibility.

I am just about to purchase my first fish so in the same boat.
