Hi,

First post from a novice, I've been looking at getting a fish tank for a while, but the "Mrs" doesn't like any of the conventional tanks, the only tank she likes that I've pointed out is the "Bio-orb life".

I've read the reviews and I'm not impressed, So my question is " are there any well recommended modern tanks that are half decent and under £900?".

Cheers

Ben

if by modern you are talking solely about the aesthetic design, then the Fluval Edge or Bi-orb life are they only two that pop into mind. But for their money you could buy a larger more traditional style tank.

Fluval are probably the most design-centric company out there, and some of their larger tanks are less than £900 but also have a good, modern aesthetic. Check thir range out via the link below

Go get a fluval roma 90 litre with the new stand and wood effect. To me they are quite nice! Otherwise, check out a natural wood stand range that Maidenhead Aquatics sell, thats if you are in the UK. I had a bi0rb life once upon a time, they are a nightmare to maintain and i wouldnt ever touch one with a barge pole. They look nice, but feh, that doesnt last long when it starts to get dirty.

Thanks for the quick response... Appreciate it, all the tanks we've seen have tended to look cheap, all the bases seem to be made of cheap/crappy MDF.....

Our house is an old Victorian place with character and the standard tanks would look totally out of place....

if you want something that's solid wood, have a look at fishkeeper.co.uk . That's Maidenhead Aquatics website and they exclusively sell a range of tanks & stands called Seashell or Seabray....something like they. They are very solid and available in a variety of woods.

here you go....

Then why have the 'standard tank'.This is my tank, we couldn't have the 'standard tank' either due to the layout of our house.

Do you have a piece of furniture, or knowof one that you could tweak to hold a tank that would be more in keeping with the room decor.

Tanks can be a original as you want them to be. And i mean on the outside too.

That's fantastic, especially the wine rack 1, I'm sure my other half will appreciate that.

Take a look at ND aquatics they have a very good name for tanks and the cabinets have alot of finish's bound to be something you like, £900 will get you a huge decent set up

£900 is a VAST amount of money to pay for a tank imo  But then again I don't really care what they look like, all mine are old clearseal things on black metal stands :D If you;re set on a biorb life or similar, take a look on ebay, I always see a few going cheap on there.

£900 isnt "that" much, at least not for a display tank in your front room, its everything else you need to buy to get the tanks up and running that start to raise the costs of a new tank.

I'm with louiseness! I doubt if all my tanks put together cost me that much, but then, I'm not in the least house proud or fashion concious
I'd rather spend money on plants, fish and filters!

lol; we do seem to be very rare :)

there was a guy selling custom tanks and bespoke cabinets on ebay (brand new), which came in a light wood and from what I could tell, could be stained to match your home.

I've looked and I can't find his listing, but I'll keep looking and when it comes up I'll link it.

If you're looking for a more modern design, I personally like the Juwel Rio. I almost bought one from the LFS and I think they look really nice.

Juwel Rio is about the least Victorian fitting design you could find. :D

I suppose you could get some lead strips and create a nice diamond effect leaded light window on the front panel.
