hey dude i am way into eels. i thinkn i have just the right eel for your situtation, you could try a zig zag eel. (Yah yah we all know "no such thing as a freshwater eel" who cares.) the zig zags only get about 6 inches long so you could definatly put one in there. If you only want an eel tank you could get 2. personaly i would get the 2 and a couple of nice fish arround 2-3 inches. (i would get a nice filter though and i clean my gravel about every 10 days personally.) thats what i would do for the tank situtition. : band:

The smallest Eel I can think of is a Half Banded Peacock Eel which gets to 12". A zig zag gets to 24 " sometimes.

The smallest species of spiney eel are the Short finned or zebra spiney eel Mastacembelus zebrinus which reaches a adult size of 6" and the Belted spiney eel Mastacembelus circuminctus which also reaches a adult size of around 6". Unfortunately neither of these fish are commonly seen in the hobby and the smallest spiney eel you are likely to come accross easily is the Peacock spiney eel Macrognathus aculeatus which grows to around 13". All eels require a tank with a minimum length of 36" (30 us gallons) as they can be sensative to fluctuating water conditions.

That is news for me. What is the smallest tank for a Fire Eel?

Fire Eels are one of the biggest species of Eels and can reach 36" in captivity although usually smaller. They would need at least 75g but I would recommend a 100g.

There's a freshwater eel from Lake Tanganyika called the Mottled Spiny Eel (Afromastacembelus moorii) which is very tolerant to diverse water conditions but is actively predatory (as are most eels)

Grows up to 18" maximum
