hi i have just started my first tropical fish tank

here is how i set it up

tank 50ltr capacity used tank but cleaned before use
stones all cleaned as used before
filter brand new
heater used and set to 28 Celsius
air bubble thing working and used
water with aquasafe for every 10 litres of water i used 5ml of aqua safe
thermoniter thing stuck on tank

all was swithced on and in working order for 48 hours

then checked the nitrite and amonia levels and both showed up good at 0 ppm i can only check these 2 as i dont have other kits (any i really need?)

on the 48th hour

i stocked my tank with

2 mollies one male one female
2 guppied sex unknown (anyway to tell?)
2 pink tetra sex unknown (any way to tell?)

fish have now been in tank for 48hours and i have been doing 20% water changes daily and feeding fish 2 times a day

and mollies gave birth to fry within the first night i had them

she had around 25

as of today i can only count 10 ish

i can see one on floor i think it may be dead *(any reason)

what should i be feeding my baby mollies?

i have been making flake food into powder and they seem to be eating that

i have not put them into a breeding tank as it happend so fast

tommorow i will stock the hole tank with live plants as ive orderd 20 plants 5 of 4 differnt types of live plants of ebay
will this effect tank ?

also the back of my tank is a mirror

my male mollie is a bit mental and is swimming around like there is no tommorow and rest of fish seem relaxed

why is this?

please help i know its alot but i just want my first tank to be a success :)

thanks all that help me :) :good:

ive just found a nitrate and ph testing kit shall i do it?

my ph level is closest to 7.6? what does this mean ?

You did not allow your fish tank to properly cycle before adding fish which is why they died. You are effectively doing a Fish-in cycle. You should read this article http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=224306 it will let you know everything you need to know to minimise the stress to your fish and any more deaths.

Good luck

not all the babies will survive.
the sex for the guppies, are the same as the mollies r.
your feeding the babies just fine.
