Hey All! (Pics Of My Setup + Newbie Advice)

Can't thank you all so far for the input and personal advice. The nitrite levels are a tad under 0.25ppm now, so another water change and hopefully i can keep it low.

I'm feeding them a lot less so they hopefully produce less waste for the time being too.

Can you believe the 54ltr tank is an Aldi Special. £45 for the tank, heater, light, filter, thermostat and mountain ornamnent. Even the woman in the LFS stated that she couldn't compete with that price for what I have.

Ry

Welcome Aboard!

Very nice people here, where everyone is just like family.

Feel free to post your questions to the forums.

Thanks peeps for the welcome! Little update but my Platies have given birth! To about 10 in total last week. Managed to save 4 of them and have them in a float tank feeding they tiny specs of flake food :hyper:

And also my nitrite levels have been 0 for the past 3 days so no need for any water changes!

Only question is, I have a plastic float tank with dead food sitting at the bottom of it - how the hell do you clean it?

Will update with pictures soon! I'll create my own progress thread when I have the time (I own a few forums so I'm always really busy online!!)

Ah . . . try using some thin air-line as a mini syphon :good: just be careful not to suck the fry up!

What plans have you got for the fry? If you keep a mix of males and females, you'll always get babies . . . you need to be prepared to rehome some of them as you won't be able to keep them all.

I'm aiming to grow them and depending on the colour, give at least 2 back to the LFS, as I've only a 54ltr tank (I say only.. It's a lot for me!) and I want as much variety as I can get.

I want my tank to mature enough so I can find a bottom feeder useful! I've also seen crabs that you can buy but unsure if they're compatible with the fish I'll want to get (mainly a mix of platies and guppies and tetra's if I can) and so on

So much to do, so little much time! :)

I managed to clean the float tank out with your advice. However my bulb has gone in the tank already, and being an Aldi special you can't get new bulbs in general to fit, so need to buy new lighting. I see some lights can be underwater stylee too :hyper:
