My Electric Blue Hermits seem to enjoy climbing up on my live rock and picking at whatever they can find... but every once in a while one of them falls - and can't get unstuck without my reaching in there and getting him out of whatever hole he's gotten into.

It's really irritating, especially because what if one gets stuck and I'm gone for the weekend of something...

Obviously I can't put flashing lights up on the danger spots or spank them for being naughty... And it's probably impossible to eliminate every trap.... so what can I do?

how on earth do you think a crab lives in the wild??? if they got stuck in holes i think they may have followed the dodo!

leave the poor thing alone! if he has to he can allways dump his shell anyway and just move to another.

while i'm all about letting Darwin work his magic in the wild, when I pay for something I prefer to keep natural selection at bay... I'd like to see any person on this forum advocate letting a hermit get stuck, stay stuck, and eventually die.

lol......explain how the crab is stuck!

if he is really stuck he will just leave his shell.

what next, armbands for fish ;)

Crabs can bail on there shells, just be sure that thereare extra shells scattered about and all will be well.

Crabs are extremlyy versitile and also strong.. they can climb out of most scrapes and if they have got ot leave their shells behind then as a last resort they will do so. As suggested, make sure there are plenty of shells scattered around so they can make a dash for cover and a new home if needed.

missed opportunity here really....would have been fun to see the poster rig up little "rope bridges" over his gaps in the rock, and perhaps train his fish to act as air/sea rescue crew ;)
