Heres My Babies (Pics)

Does everybody look at the first website they come across and believe what it says... several cichlid websites say that you can have a pair of severums i a 55 gallon tank and they specialize in that breed of fish. I know someone that had an oscar fish with tetras, catfish and many other fish that the oscar could fit in its mouth and it didnt touch any of them (and you cant keep them with anything according to most fish keepers try telling that to someone who had him for over a year with small fish) as chromide said some people can do things others couldnt get away with. I also know that my lfs owner had 5 parrots (fully grown) and 7 clown loach and other fish in a 120 ltr tank i have kept fish for a long time and know several people that have kept fish for longer than i have and the tank doesnt seem over stocked to me if the fish all get on then there is no problem. I also know that there are several types of silver shark as there are with all fish some of the stay quite small and others get alot bigger and normally they are labelled differently such as jumbo silver sharks so people shouldnt just assume that it is goung to be too big for the tank that it is in i like the tank and love some of the fish that you have keep it up ...

let me say this Im Not a big fish exper let alone do i know much about over stocking etc But if thats what better more experainced people say im willing to agree with them as i know bala sharks grow 16 inch. and thats probelry a breedig pair of Severums. :good:

Ehh??

The "Fish Addict" Thing?

If i could change it i would.

But i cant till i get 1000 posts odd?

good advice isnt based on assumption, its based on the facts that the fishkeeper provides, all we try to do is point him or her in the right direction based on our own experiences.. sheesh i have made a huge amount of mistakes in this hobby, wish i had learned by reading that someone else had made them :/
and silver sharks like darting about.. at 15 inches.. or even 10.. 48inches isnt going to provide them with much room to swim fast for long..
5 parrots and 7 clowns in a 120l?
provide pics and ill belive that- youd be hard pushed to physically fit them in..

Love the bumblebee - That's not really true.

I don't think you'll find many people on here who say you can't keep and oscar with anything else. Quite the contrary. You just have to select fish that are suitable.
And yes...I'm sure people have kept them with tetras...but I can also assure you a much greater percentage end up failing than succeeding.

That is why we advise people, because if 'more often than not' a fish will end up under stress, being stunted/deformed, have health problems due to certain conditions. Then we'll say don't do it. Because it's just not worth it.

Also just because you CAN get away with keeping 5 parrots and a couple of clowns in a 120l doesn't mean you should. They wont live to their full potential lifespan (we've seen in on here many many many many times), and that seems unfair to the animal.

Oh and the 'silver shark' is a bala shark plain n simple. I ID'd it from the pictures. It is the one I referenced to in links.

Anyhoo, I'm not posting again on here. I'm not being drawn into a squabble...I will however respond if/when lady sevrum replies.

believe what you will this is my local fish shop owner he isnt my best friend why would he feel the need to lie about it i am just saying what he had told me no one mentions about the oscar though not eating little fish some people are lucky with fish some people just arent so each to there own and as for the cigar shark i have one that is about 4" and he will only grow a few more although the majority of website say that they get massive .

he may only grow a bit bigger because of being stunted if your aquarium is to small, and if he owns a fish shop and has 5 parrots and 7 clowns in a 120l, then i wouldnt take any advise from him.

oscars are not predetory fish.. theyre lazy big lumps.. if they can be bothered to go and catch a fish, and if it will fit in there mouths then they will eat it, i have kept a 12inch oscar with large barbs for 6 weeks ( had no choice).. 6 went in and 6 came out.. why would he bother he eats like a king, no need for him to make such effort.. BUT its certainly NOT something i would recommend.
and lots of people stunt there fishes growth by providing bad sized tanks- which is exactly what this thread is aiming to let the OP know.. before it happens

H.I.D is a good example.

( Hole . In . Head <-- Stunt disease )

Woops edit I Typed too quick without Thinking.

Yep. My mom has Kept Oscar's in Community tanks for a certian amount of time.

The one oscar did'nt bother the other fish until he started eating them ( This was in a two foot tank to heal his fins due to the fact he got into a fight and could'nt swim. ) So my mom added him to our 6ft tank.

i actually think this thread should be closed untill the OP make s request for it to be deleted or reopened..its xmas, and i for one dont want my blood pressure hitting the roof till at least 11am on friday
