Here's a challenge for you.

Is there anyway you could have someone hold them for a few days and them ship them over night? Though that is probably expensive and more of a pain.

Hi Guys

What about a battery operated pump ? - It might cost you some money in batteries if your trip is for 5 days (I live in England and geography of the States is`nt a strong point) - I know you can get them as I have seen them used for keeping sea baits alive for fishing trips e.g. sand eels etc.

You may even be able to connect this to your filter via an airline and do both jobs of keeping your fish alive and your bacteria.

You should be able to get one from a good sea fishing shop or one of the online companies.

If you are struggling try typing "Askari" into your search engine and it`ll bring up the link.

I can`t tell you if they would be powerful enough though you would need to discuss this with them - you may need to buy 2 or more.

Hope this helps.

Phil

I just move mine in five gallon buckets, keep the fish in the cab with you. You can get battery powered air pumps for dirt cheap and they run for eight to twelve hours on 2 D batterys. (you can control the temp in the cab so they dont get too hot or too cold.)

Thanks for all of the suggestions everyone.

If it comes down to it I will sell or give away the fish if I think they will be hurt in the move. I am hoping to keep them with me as I have put alot of work in to them and have grown a little attached ;) .

I have found a converter that I can plug into the cigarette lighter in my truck that will converty it to a 110 socket. This way I can plug in an air pump and use some disposable filters I found for smaller tanks. The filters work off of an air pump so I can put air in the container as well as filter it. I plan on putting those in my tanks for atleast 2 weeks before the move so I can get some bacteria in them. I will probably use a large cooler with some water in it, then seperate the fish into other bags and float them. Hopefully this will cusion any sudden movements or jarring while driving. I can also control the temp with heat packs between the cooler and the liner the water will be in.

In total it will probably take 4-6 filters, an air pump with spliter and a control valve to adjust how much air is going into each bag. I'll also take some of their tank water with me in the back of the truck for water changes.

Thanks again for all of the input.
I'll be sure to update you when I arrive.

I say sell everything. I moved around corner and I hated it.

I heard you get some real good deals on fish in florida, cause many breeders and fisheries are in Fla.

i dont have anything to suggest.

all i want to say is its very well selling your fish and getting new ones.
but i bet each fish you have all have different personalities.

i had a big black goldfish once who when u put ur finger on the side of the glass he would suckk the other side as if he was kissing you.

and try to keep your fish safe and stress free and good luck with the move

My thoughts exactly. Mail the fish to your new address.
Only problem there is I would need 2 complete setups.
Actually, I think it would be easier to buy a new setup once you get there. Get someone to look after the fish untill the tank is set up properly in the new house (take the filter material with you or get it shipped over a couple of days before the fish, the tank with substrate and water in it should have enough good bacterial stuff in there to keep the fish alive and healthy), and once its setup properly get the fish shipped over. Get someone you trust to sell the old setup and post over the money

Also, I take the puffers arent in the pirannah tank, right? Green spotted puffers being brackish till full marine and all that? :/ If they are, I say definatly sell them or give them away!

Could you ask a lfs if they could rent you space for a couple of days, then have them shipped overnight to you in florida?

That would be pretty expensive! I have a 75g and a 40g with all of the fixings. If I were dealing with 20g tanks I would do that but after paying for a move across the country another $1000 would be really tight.

...and no. The Piranha arein the 70 and the Puffers are int 40...

It would be worth looking into. I don't know if they would take the Piranha but the Puffers might be ok. Thanks!
