Here is my sunglasses betta.:)

Well if you can see the defect then it would be wrong to breed a fish, IE deformed spines etc, sometime it happens and there is nothing wrong with the parents, just a rouge gene somewhere, but then thats all breeding is a mutation of a gene that produces something different and then appears in generations after..... the fish that
yeeviabetta get from spawning this fish may just have normal eyes I'm sure most will.he may never get a blue eyed fish again

Except mine doesn't have the freaky eyes :p
I think so! Did you got it from Wasan too from Thailand? Did you get a sibling female? He told me that his batch has only one has the eyes like this and the only one in Thailand. Aren't I am so lucky? LOL I just fall in love when i saw it in aquabid. Aren't yours look like sibling to this one? :D I love all the names you guys gave it to me. I hardly can choose right now because all looks so damn good!
As for the breeding, I didn't planning to breed earlier at all until I got them into my hand. He just wants to mate and he already excited to see his sibling next tank. He been keep bubbling too until today and very active like others plakat. Just like your babies, if they want to make love or found a love one, you can't stop them, right? LOL
I can see why he got a metallic color on his eyes. Actually this betta has strong in iridesence shinning metallic in his gene. Actually the top color layer of the betta is the control of the shinning metallic shimering color. I don't see any harm of the betta in long run because it just the top layer of the body, skin or you call it a top protection layer. Just like wearing a sunglasses. I can tells that he can see very well and know that what is going on in the surrounding area. He can see me coming, feeding him just like normal betta and he is not a blind fish. If I let them breeding and have babies, I don't think I will get any babies that looks like him with sunglasses. By the way, will the babies come out or not we all don't know yet. LOL OK. I will up dating you all later anyway. I think this is a very interesting output because we don't know what will comes out. Experiment! Breeding them will be happened in a month or so. She is not ready yet as looking at her belly. Need to fed her up with black worms. LOL

If a fish has a characteristic that could cause defects later in life...should that fish be bred whenever. or should you wait until you find out if such faults could arise and cause the fish problems(ie blindness)?

Could such genetic make-up be passed on to offspring, who could also come up with the same defects later in life?

I know when I bred Doberman's, I had to make sure I had genetic testing (hips, elbows, eyes, heart, blood) done for all the genetic problems that are known to arise..before I bred (AKC requires you wait until 18 months..but it is generally recognized that you wait until after 2 years..so you can test hips/elbows and have as close to accurate test results as possible). And I had to give out a copy of the parents health certificate with each puppy, or if I had not had the testing done..I had to give a refund guarentee for a certain time frame(I just had the tests done..lots easier in the long run).

Do people do this with fish? Should they do this with fish?

I've been wondering this for a while now...since so many people seem to jump right into breeding bettas(not saying anyone is or is not doing that, or that anyone should not breed betta's)...I just saw an opportunity to ask a question I've been pondering (since I had guidelines to go by when breeding dogs..cats are the same way btw).

No offense meant to anyone or towards anyone. Just my curiosity getting the better of me :D .
i think you think too much. hahahaha LOL  J/k! :p

Sandusky, you can download the pictures!!! You can show them my sun glasses betta called..... hmmm.... I think a sunglasses brand name is a cool name for him. :p hhehehe

OK. I finally decided name him RAYBAN!!! :) Thanks sorrell! His wife is DKNY!!! hahaha :p

Thankyou thankyou. Newfishes. Did you read about a post saying that you are a gay and lesbian group betta collection? LOL :D

i am running a special haven for bettas of all sexual orientation! no breeding here! as long as you are a perky, happy fish with lots of personality, you are welcome here! :D i think i do need to show the boys and girls to each other so they know what they are missing!
no discrimination here!

Hi Yeeviabetta,

Nice fish! I'm really curious how if this trait will be passed through to the offspring or not (with spawn sister you may have a good chance). What I'm also wondering is if the eye-sight of such a fish is affected by this heavy coloration in the eye. Do you experience differences with other fish or not?
Good luck with them!

Many greetings from the Netherlands,

Joep
