Here I Come Marine!

Thanks always wondered what they stood for.

i like the look of FROGSPAWN coral GALAXIA coral SUN CORAL, at a quick glance will look in more depth soon.

The tank works out to be 380L, it currently have a juwel tower filter and 2x 300W heaters. i think i will take this filter out as i dont like it that much.

I love frogspawn and it is on my list of must haves! Im just starting out with some easier corals atm, but mainly zoas, mostly because I love the range of colours they come in! I have a chalice frag and actually think it is a really nice coral but havn't heard very much said about it on forums! Have seen these come in a huge range of colours!

Thanks guys.
Do you think a fluval fx5 would do? Also would the standard filter media be good to use?

FX5 is a wicked piece of kit I had one on my 100G Malawi tank before I ditched it for a sumped Marine tank, had 2 years use out of it and still got £100 second hand for it. They shift huge amounts of water for a cannister, but bin most of the media, don't run ceramics, personally I would fill the top 2 baskets with just Live Rock rubble and then the bottom basket with carbon and Rowaphos and a lump of filter floss. Think that would work really well, but you would need to clean and replace the floss regularly. You would need some powerheads in the tank though.

Coral wise I love my Birdsnest and Hammers.

Thanks think the fx5 may be bought on saturday along with the ro filter.

I am adding two HYDOR KORALIA 4000 EVOLUTION.

How do you fit an RO filter? can you attach it to a tap or dose it have to be plumbed in?

Thanks
Lloyd

Check out my Godiva reef journal there is a bit on there about RO units at the beginning. Much simpler than they seem when you start looking.

Thanks :D Its getting there slowly! Make sure you start your journal

RO are simple when you know how haha they scared me at the start. You can really easily connect to an outdoor tap with a connector which I what I do. OR plumb under the sink or something. Depends which you prefer or where you have the space. If it is outside I would reccommend not mounting it as in the winter you would need to bring it inside, if it freezes thats it gone! :( I just take mine outside as and when I need to make water! :D

I think ive (sort of) got my head around RO filter. Do they produce waste water? if so can it be used for a tropical tank?
Thanks

They do produce waste water, they give a higher ratio of waste than good water.
I wouldn't reccommend using it purely as I read somewhere not to drink the waste water, has to mean somethings not right with it? I will wait for someone to correct me on that

Thanks, my garden is quite bare, best buy some plants to water :p

Im sure i will have lots more questions but cant think of any now.

I have just got a book (the reef aquarium, science, art and technology vol 3) it seems really useful :good:
