Help1 Why Are My Fish Dying?

Your dad could put on his unhappy customer face, and try to come across more like "what are you going to do about this" which will get them to want to help you guys out. If people come across as combative, all they get in return is people being on the defensive, and less likely to want to think about how they can help!!! The sooner you guys go there the better the chances that your remaining fish will still be alive. In the meantime change your water often, so they don't live in that toxic soup. You do have dechlorinator to add to the tap water, right? It helps remove the chlorine in your tapwater if your city is using it!

Bettas, or Siamese Fighting Fish, are a lot of fun. They each have their own personality and are very entertaining. I think you will like having one.

Just to add fuel to the fire, there's another forum (which will remain nameless) that recommends a minimum 45 litre tank for one Betta based on RSPCA guidelines! Now, how big is your tank?

nine litres

Wow, even my 10 gal tank is 7 liters too small!

Yes, but get this, I believe they're in the process of revising that recommended volume upwards! :S They're a bit anal about stocking levels though so I don't post there, just read.

BLimey! And you complained about people on here posting about overstocking.......

No, I complained about people posting unnecessarily about overstocking. But, yes, they're abit over the top so, as I say, I don't get involved.

Hmmm, I don't think that 10 gal ?(37.8 l)is that bad, and I do love it when fish are given a lot of swimming room! I'm rather understocking my tanks.....it looks nicer to me! Probably because I can't stand being in confined spaces or crowds myself, lol!

Threads like this make me so angry with irresponsible fish stores, the store should have been giving far better advice. For instance, if you were absolutely positive you must have an Angelfish, the shop staff should have been trying to sell you a tank that was at least 90(l)x30(w)x50(d)cm.

When was the last time you changed the water?
What dechlorinator are you using?

My suggestion is do not give the remaining fish any more food for the next two days, but in the short term transfer the remaining fish into a container with their current water (having turned the heater and filter off), empty the 9l tank of all water and replace it with temperature matched fresh dechlorinated water. Do the same tomorrow morning.

And please either contact the store yourself or get someone older/more confident to act on your behalf ASAP (tomorrow hopefully) and insist that these poor fish can be returned for a full refund (including any that have died). This shop had no business selling you those fish for a 9l, knowing full well you did not have a "cycled" filter to even keep them alive in the short term.
