Pls someone help me. We are now into 5the week of our new Orborb 60L tank, we have 4mickys Plata (2 in first 4 weeks) 2 Guppys A red fin shark and a siemease fighting fish. WE have changed the filter after 4 weeks, we check the water every week, we now feed the fish every other day, small pinch (we used to feed them twice a day up to last week)we change 20% of the water every week, and since we put the extra 6 fishes on Sat pass our water is so cloudy we cant even see the back of the tank. As far as we know we are doing everything by the book and yet the water is getting worst and not better, can anyone advise what we need to do to get our water to clear?

Thank you

Do you have any test kits? If you can, put up the water paras.
Also, maybe get some pictures of the tank?
And just a note, the guppies will probably be attacked by the fighter fish as he will see their long tails and mistake them for another male. Just keep an eye on that.

Thanks for ans. Sorry what do you mean by Paras? we are completly new in this. I have taken a pic of our tank before it went cloudy but for some reason I am having problem showing it as my pic. WE knew about the guppies, but the fighter went in the tank and just hides, not sure if it is going to survive or why it is in hiding but than again our water is so cloudy we lucky we are seeing the other fish. :-(

PS

We have checked the water again and all the test shows ok, only thing it shows that water is slightly hard allother tests are ok.

If you have changed all the filter media after 4 weeks you will have essentially taken out the good bacteria that was starting to establish on your media which will break down harmful toxins and replaced it with brand new sponges which will have no bacterial colony whatsoever, meaning you are back to square one and in a cycle. Despite what might be on packets you do not need to replace media every 4 weeks, it would be extremely detrimental to do so. Most media is fine for months and month and months and only needs washing in old tank water and when you do need to change it, you replace it bit by bit giving time for the filter to catch up.

What test kits are you using, if it is the strip kits they are useless and will not give you an accurate reading, the best kits are liquid, something like api liquid kits are pretty good.

I would also say that your tank is way too small to have a red tailed shark in. When stocking a new tank, it should be done with caution and also researching the fish that are able to live in your aquarium happily in regards to size, compatibility etc.

If you can get the water stats in numbers using a good test kit we will be able to advise you on what to do to try and help your fish.

Paras=water parameters(ammonia,nitrIte,nitrAte,pH)
These water parameters will give the members an idea of whats going on with your tank waters chemistry. I agree with Lolly123 a red tailed shark is not suitable for a 60ltr biorb.

Keith.

Would the members and moderators recommend a 25% water change without touching the media or gravel? :sick:
Make sure your test kit can test for Ammonia and Nitrite, what are those numbers? What are the numbers from your water source? :unsure:

Lolly, you have a very good post there a lot of good info. Mamacass, we really need to know your water parameters to be able to help you. Seeing how your tank is 5 weeks old and you changed the filter pads a week ago sound to me like your in a cycle again. More then likely the the cloudiness in the water is an ammonia spike which is lethal to the fish. Also the red fin shark needs to go your tank is to small and the betta probably isn't going to be a good idea in a tank that small with other fish
