Help!

Well, first of all, you should never add new fish for two weeks after one dies, just to prevent the spread of illnesses. Bala sharks can grow to be 15 inches long and need a very large tank. They are also social shy fish, so they need to be kept in groups. Please consider doing a massive tank upgrade OR re-home the fish.

As for what could be wrong with it, look at his gills, do they seem to be red and inflamed? Does he seem to be breathing rapidly? Have you seen him scratch on anything in the tank? Does it look like he has white lips or fungus growing on his mouth?

Also, can you please post your water stats?

yea im working on getting a bigger tank- im not the richest girl u kno.

Yes they are very shy im having a hard time looking at them, but from what i can see, theres nothing wrong with him. i think it just might be stress? no scatching, and no redness. he does hav a few little black spots on his body... like 3 on one side.

Unless you plan to be able to buy a 75 gallon tank, the balas need to go. It is not fair to keep them in such a small tank.

Him staying at the surface could be one way he is showing stress, but watch him closely for other changes.
