I have severn goldfish and a pingi pingu (catfish). I am not sure which are male and female, i either have 6 male and 1 female or 1 male and 6 female.

Anyway, One of my fish is starting to look quite big underneath, i think she could be pregnant but I am not sure.
Could you please tell me what you think it could be, and what I need to do about it. :)

Wow... you must have an enormous tank to house all those goldfish and the Garra pingi pingi! With that many fish there certainly is a good chance that you have both sexes and that one of them is pregnant. If you provide an area with lots of plants for the male to drive the female into for her to release the eggs then it'll make things easier. But you obviously run the risk of the other fish (and even herself) eating the eggs before they hatch. I'm sure there is someone here who has spawned goldfish successfully, so perhaps they can help you better than myself.

As long as the fish is acting as normal i wud say that u have a pregnant goldfish like xautomaticflowersx said :D

possibly, but id keep a good eye on her as i had a fish who i thought pregnant but a week later she had sbd and then it was dropsey and died.. so yea be observant :)

Could you get a pic and post it? A side view and top view would be great.

Also... could I ask how big your tank is please?

My tank is quite big. I used to have quite a small one and all the fish were really squashed so I got them a new big one and they have lots of room now. I am not sure exacty how much it holds or the size of it.

Elfy Alex

well roughly how big?
your kind of big might not be our kind of big!
my kind of big would be about 100 gallons plus and some peoples big is about 10g.. so yea.. use a ruler and measure it :)

Indeed... grab a tape measure or a ruler and have at the tank! A Garra pingi pingi will reach about 10 inches when fully grown. At which point they can sometimes become a little aggressive towards other fish.
7 goldfish and a Garra pingi pingi will need a tank of about 80-100 US gallons as Lucy mentioned, measuring something in the region of 48"x18"x24". Filtration-wise I'd be inclined to use a pair of Fluval 4+ on a tank with that many messy fish in it.

yeh, i had someone today tell me thier tank was a fair size and their 2 commons had adequete swimming room.. i asked how big exactly and she said... 3 gallons :S

Yikes. People don't realise how big they get when they aren't stunted! And the poo... oh the poo! I admit that when I first got my goldfish I bought a pair and put them in a 5gal tank because I was given bum advice by a pet shop (as so many people are). A few months later I was able to afford a better tank for them after some research. So my motto with animals now is basically that research pays!
