ok, altogether i have 6 platys, 2 of which are male. i have recently moved my boys to another tank, because they were constantly harrassing one female fish. they took NO NOTICE of my other three girls, and concentrated all their efforts on one poor one.

recently shes been looking stressed (flat fins, hiding) so thats when i decided to move the boys. however, for a while now (maybe 3 months) shes looked really fat, even between pregnancies. she isnt pregnant now (for a change) but she is still the same fatness.

she also still has flat fins, and yesterday/this morning, she has been resting on the bottom a lot. she ate last night but this morning she ignored the food.

another thing, for the past couple of weeks ive noticed her rubbing a few times against leaves. only about 5 times in a fortnight, but still.

any ideas?? i dont want to lose her :(

tank: 54 litres, ph:7.2 ammonia:0 nitrites:0 nitrates:7

She maybe eggbound from stress my bro in law has had the same problem and did the same by removing some of them eventually she died im not saying thats the case though, but they breed like hell and you dont always see it

What does it look like when she goes to the toilet.
What do you feed your fish?
Is she resting to oneside on the substrate.
Does she look pale or darker in colour.

Livebearers 3 females to one male.
Giving birth all the time takes it's toll on them.

i know, but the males didnt take much notice of the other girls. thats why i moved them.

What does it look like when she goes to the toilet: i dont think its any different than normal
What do you feed your fish? flakes and bloodworms (once a week), ive tried feeding veg and shelled peas, but only my bristlenose seem to take notice!
Is she resting to oneside on the substrate. on her belly, although sometimes it looks as though shes leaning forward like her belly is heavy
Does she look pale or darker in colour. shes white with an orange tail and spots, so i cant tell if shes pale :(

another thing, i gave her a salt bath, and whilst she was in there it looked as though something was trying to come out of her anus. it looked like it does when they are about to give birth. i dont think anything happened after that though.

Can you explain in more detail when you thought what was coming out of her anus.
Fry, organs like the instestines, or a worm.

Have you tryed mushing the peas into small pieces. Fish don't always eat peas the first couple of times. You have to keep trying.

ok i drew it on, sorry for the DIY look lol.

i'll also try to take a photo of her today, but the anus protrution is not there anymore.

ps. this is a platy picture i found online, shes not my platy

CUT down on feeding
are you feeding them 2x a day cos she could also be overfed
they only need feeding once a day or every other day , if your doing once a day only feed small amounts what they can eat in 2 mins -apoart from the plec of course - then give them one NO FOOD day a week
if you go for the every other day the fish will still thrive

your platy could still be pregnant
when did she give birth
a lot of live bearers still look fat as they are instantly pregnant as soon as they give birth
they store sperm sacks from males for 6 months
so removing males from the tanks will not stop pregnancys

she most probably has still been having fry and they've been eaten , a lot like to give birth at night - well mine did
the pokey out bit near the anus could be the birthing tube

sitting on the floor with fins down can be the last stages of pregnancy

MOST PROBABLY NOT THIS BUT
check her anus again as they can have a fry stuck in the birthing tube if she has this you'll need to catch her and gently squeeze her to try and release the dead fry before the start to rot in her ---- i had to squeeze a guppy before - she only managed to have 2 live fry from the hole drop
