Just bought a red oscar today and added to my tank. Currently I have a large green Severum. Small Blue Acara and small Sajica as well as some silver dollars.

Soon as I added him my severum gave chase and nudged him bit. Then he left him alone but every so often seems to chase him again. Even my Sajica who is smaller has tried to have a nip. The oscar is about 5 or 6 months old I would guess.

Anyhow he has been in the tank about 2 hrs now and has confined himself to a corner behind some plants and is not really moving about much. He was swimming all over the place in the shop which is why I picked him as looked very healthy. Should I be worried and will the other fish ignore him once he has been in a while.

Oscars can take a while to settle, its only been a few hours, so I wouldnt be too worried just yet. Ensure he has plenty of cover to evade the more settled fish, leave the lights out and he will calm down. In a few days he will be more confident.

Ah ok will do. So will the other fish eventually get bored of him and just leave him alone. They never bother with each other

The severums might try to establish dominance early on, usually without much damage, but keep an eye on them, depending on the size of the severum may depend on his reluctance to accept a new tank mate. But assuming they are in the 450l in your sig, they should have enough room to ignore each other mainly.

Oscars are known for sulking once they have been moved tank. I have a lodging oscar here at the moment and she wouldnt eat for me, her owner came over to visit and ate straight away  Its taken well over a week for her to get use to me.

Seems to be out a bit more today and my severum has went from stalking him to just chasing him occasionly. What kind of foods are good for him as he did not seem overly excited about flakes and pellets.

He most likely wont eat for a few days, are you on about normal tropical flake food? I very much doubt he will take it. My 2 smaller oscars would take flake when I first got them only because I guess it was what they were use to in the shop. Prawns are irrisistable to a hungry sulky oscar  Frozen foods in moderation are good, brine shrimp, bloodworm etc, cockles muscles (you can get these in the blister packs too). Try getting some veg into his diet too, my Chops goes nuts for peas.

Is it fresh prawns. And what kind of peas. Definently seems more active now but does not seem hungry.

Mine likes white cloud mountain minnow. Not by choice. I thought a 1 inch oscar would be fine with them for a month or so, but no. After the first two weeks he ate all 16 of them.

He goes nuts for pellets, flakes, veg...whatever is in the tank to be fair. If i dangle food infront of him with my fingers he takes more of my fingers than he does the food.
