Quick update.
I have changed about 80% of the water but have only managed to do it once. My glowlight tetra's seem to be thriving though, darting about all over the tank.
I got the kits and took a reading before I changed the water, results I got were as follows

Ammonia 0.25-0.50, nitrite 1, nitrate 10-25, chlorine 1.5, ph 7.6, hardness 16 (ones with 2 readings couldn't decide on the colour from test kit  )

I have added appropriate amount of tap safe and also treated new water I added with this also. I have been keeping up with the treatments of filter start to try and give the filter a helping hand

Can anyone advise me where I go now as still very new to this and keep getting lots of conflicting information from friends

Cheers, Scott :D

You just need to keep up the water changes. Both the ammonia and especially the nitrite are way too high; they're both toxic at anything above 0.25ppm

Hi

Just after some advice of what I can stock i can put in my tank once the filter has matured and I can keep levels stable.
6 glow light tetras in the tank seem to be thriving as 2 of the females have been spawning and they've only been in the tank just over a week!

after reading up on a few fish I am thinking if getting

4-6 panda corys
and
5-6 tiger barbs *or* 5-6 bright coloured guppies

This would of course then be my full stock. Does this look ok, are these fish suitable for tank, with each other?

When I do introduce them to tank would I do it 2-3 fish at a time or a species at a time? How long should I wait between adding different fish?

Thanks in advance for your help :good:
Scott

Don't get tiger barbs!

First of all they're very nippy and aggressive and will harass your other fish, as well as each other. I love them, but they are a bit of a nightmare to keep. Secondly, they're a very deep bodied, chunky fish; you wouldn't guess how big they get from looking at them in the shop; even knowing their adult size is deceptive!

Panda cories would be good, but really ought to have a sand substrate as they do like to dig around and gravel can damage their delicate barbels.

One you're cycled, the rule is to add no more than 50% of the current stocking at one time; so if you have six glowlights, you should add no more than three glowlight-sized fish, then wait at least a week, preferably two before adding any more.

Thanks flutter.

I already have sand substrate in the tank as I thought it looked better and more natural than gravel. :D

Once I'm cycled think I'll start by adding some guppies a few at a time. Then put the cories in after.
What numbers would you reccomend of each? As I don't want to over stock my tank :/

Thanks again :good:
