Further to my topic earlier, I have managed to get a better picture. Can anyone help me identify my new fish? And is it a VT who has been badly bitten? If so, what course of treatment would you recommend. Thanks in advance for your help.

I will go out on a limb and say a very badly bitten crowntail

Whatever he is I think he is beautiful and am so pleased I went and saw him hiding that day.

Hi
I would agree with newfishy that it looks like a crowntail (CT) I would say though, that the fins look very uniform, and the rays, especially the dorsal, look intact. It could be a very young guy??

my first thoughts were a crown tail plakat,

he is pretty

could be a young boy though, dosnt to me look like he has been bitten

:good:

Where did you get him from? He's really nice and great if he is a CTPK!

Hi, he is gorgeous the pictures really do not do him justice, his colours are beautiful  . I do agree that his fins do not look bitten - which is what is confusing me. I got him from a local fish shop - where I don't usually go as they aren't very good to their fish - but I needed something urgently. I saw him in the corner of a tank, the lighting wasn't very good and he was all washed out. I felt so sorry for him and bought him thinking he was a VT with very very bad fins, but when I got him home I noticed he was nothing like a VT and didn't appear to be bitten at all. His fins are like a crown tails but a lot shorter which is what is confusing me, if he was a CTPK that would be amazing! A CT would be fantastic - as the only place I could find them is ebay and my husband would not let me pay that much for one, and I've been dreaming of owning one for so long.

id deffo say he was a ctpk

doesnt look like hes been nipped

gosh hes so sweet

hmm...I reloaded the pic with better quality and I think I was incorrect in saying he was bitten up...he does look like a ctpk to me, the angle he is at plus his flairing makes his head look larger in comparison to his body and it threw me off.

nice looking find in a lfs:)

WOW......what a great find especially if he is a CTPK.....which he looks like to me

Thank you everyone - I'm very excited if he is a CTPK, but whatever he is beautiful and I love him.
The PK could explain why he does look a little stumpy compared to everyone else CT's - which is what I thought he may be originally.
He is very cute whatever.

due to the roundness of the end of the extended rays on the tail i would say he was an extended / long ray CT that has had finrot, i have seen it a few times in bet shop CT's and in one of the guys i sent to 5teady from the group of rescues. Could be wrong but a CTPK is normally more compact looking and the rays are sharp

Can you get a photo of him with his ventrals down? The ventrals on a CTPK would be intact with standard shape. If he's had finrot or severe ammonia damage and they were unaffected they will be longer than the rest of his fins, if they were affected it will be obvious by their shape. I agree that a lot of CTPK are double ray, so devon might be right.

Hi, to find a CT would be amazing, especially as the fish shops near me really don't specialise in Bettas, or bother with them to much.
I will get another picture tonight and post it which may help you ID it more. He doesn't appear to have finrot now so fingers crossed he will be ok.
He's very feisty, and I think he looks beautiful when he flares.
