Hi there. I’ve been keeping fish now for around 6 months and just recently I’ve had an outbreak of ick. I’ve treated the tank with Protozin and followed all the instructions.
The treatment finished 4 days ago and I’ve not done a water change yet to allow things to work completely.
This morning I saw a few little strange blobs on the tank wall which looked like cysts under a magnifying glass, so I removed them and also a plant I saw them on. I can’t see any more of them but a few of the fish still seem to be scratching themselves.
Should I do a water change and do another cycle of the protozin treatment?

had this happen to me and it turned out to be fungus that killed 6 of my beloved mollies. I discovered too late what to give them but I now use tetra all in one tablets. They have saved my fish countless times over!! You will see a noticeable change by day 3. They package says to take out the filter cartridge but I just leave it in as it works just as well . Good luck.
PS. If it is fungus you will need to take everything out of the tank including substrate and give it a good white vinegar and water bath. And then whip down the walls of the tank with diluted vinegar as well or it will just keep coming back. Good luck

The most effective and certainly the safest method to deal with ich (I'm assuming it is ick, no way to confirm) is by raising the tank water temperature to 86F/30C and leaving it there for two full weeks. Do water changes and vacuum the substrate at each, just make sure the temp remains warm.

Using any of the so-called ich remedies/medications is more dangerous. And not necessary anyway. I would do a major water change maybe one every day for 2 or 3 days, to get rid of any of the treatment, and raise the temp.

If you can pot a clear phot of the "blobs" someone might know what they are. I've never seen this with ich, but... .

Id turn the tank temperature up to around 30c for a week and gravel vac as much as you can I’d avoid using salts as you have used medication

Hi
Thanks for getting back to me. I’ve taken a photo of the blobs. Hopefully you may be able to tell what it is. Melanie

Hi Mary

Does this look like the problem you had. Melanie

You don't want to remove any fish from the tank as they will all be infected. Just increase the filtration and put an air stone or two in the tank. You need to keep it above 30 degrees for around 10 days.

Ok that’s fab advice I’ve got one air stone going already. Thanks so much for your help. Melanie 😃

The blobs in the photos is not ich. In the second photo it looks like fungus growing on something. The first photo seem to be tiny snails.

I agree with subsequent posts, do not move anyt of the fish, just increase the temperature, provide good surface disturbance (increases oxygen) and do the water changes vacuuming the substrate in open areas.

Hi
Thanks for your reply. I’ve done a massive clean out today and changed 1/2 tank water with a huge substrate vac too. Temperature turned right up. I’ll continue to monitor and thanks for your advice
