hi guys, i recently performed a blackout on my tank at home, and its not done anything at all, i have an undergravel filter i just wonder if the gravel i have in it is too large for it? i really dont know what to suggest now, im lost for ideas :(

the water is  << that kinda colour if not a little lighter!

would a live plant work? i have 1 suckerloach, 3 guppies, 4 neon tetras and 6 other random fish, not sure what they are lol! maybe i have too many fish? its a 28L tank

any help would be great!

thank youuuu :good:

you are very overstocked for that size tank. don't know what to suggest for the green water except clean as much of it off the glass and ornaments as you can, and keep up with lots of water changes to get the water quality good, you also need to do regular water changes to keep the levels anywhere near good with that amount of fish in.

Do you have the water stats?

Thanks for that DJ. I want to grow green water in my summer tub pond and didn't know what to fertilize with to get there. It looks like it is a nitrogen thing from what that blog says. Nitrogen is something that I have on hand so tomorrow my pond gets a dose. Green water may be unsightly but is a real tonic for most fish. You have helped make my pond fish healthier this season with your information.

a cheers from fatheadminnow who gave me the link a few days ago :good:

i did think i was overstocked, but they were given to me by a friend who thought that she only had a couple of neon tetras... hmmm... may have to give them to someone :( algae is not on my fake plants, but it may be worth getting a real one then? and a UV sterilizer

thanks guys

Get shot of the undergravel filtration for starters if you physically cant remove it then shove a pipe down the uplift tube and suck out as much gunk as you can.
Perform waterchanges weekly (30%) and address the source ie lighting both tank and passive and cut down on neutrients entering the tank ie overfeeding
For Gin Clear water you could also employ a Diatomic filter, periodically

I had the same problem and did everything, even straining the water with a cloth AND THEN I found API's ALGAEFIX!!! I had no hope left and just put a dose of ALGAEFIX in the water before I went to bed and when I woke up.....the water was crystal clear!!! I would recommend this ALGAEFIX to anyone with green water. Hope it works out for you! :)
