Hello,
since days I am looking into what fish I can add to my fish tank. I had two angel fish, but they died in the last 6 months  . One of age, the other one probably of being lonely and age. I could never have smaller fish or Shrimps, but now I can switch to something smaller, but I don't know what.
I have 3 Clown Loaches and 2 Corydoras julii. My tank is 125 litres, has a pH of 6, KH of 5 and GH of 10. It is a very dense planted tank with lots of grasses. I would like a colourful display and don't mind small shoals. I would like some Otocinclus hoppei, but that's how far I got, I just can't decide. Any ideas?
Thank you Sandra

Hi Sandra,

Can I recommend a shoal of Blue Emperor Tetras (or they're sometimes called Purple Emperors) Inpaichthys kerri. I love these fish. They're very active and continually chase each other around. The males are more purple and have a purple adipose fin. Females have a brownish adipose fin. Mine are still around an inch long but they are supposed to grow to a maximum of about 2 inches.

how about a shoal of serpaes or black phantoms? they arent spectacular fish, but if you've ever seen them in moderately large shoals you will know exactly what i mean.

I am now thinking of going with some rainbows. They need to be a good size, otherwise they will be lovely food for the clown loaches. I thought of 10 pseudomugil gertrudae oder 10 pseudomugil paskai. will they go with the clowns? and then i thought of 6 otocinclus cocama. Can I keep tetras with that stock?
cheers Sandra

Hi again,
I just posted in "Buy,sell and swap". Will give my Clowns away, they are simply too big for the tank anyway and I wouldn't have a problem with smaller fish, which I really would like to keep.
Regards sandra

What is 'buy sell and swap'? Can you provide a link?

Well, theres the usual neons tetras, which grow to an inch and a half, very colorful. There's Danios. The most commons are Zebras, they growt o about 2.5 inches, blue with yellow/white horizontal stripes. Very active and hardy schooling fish. There's harlequin (sp?) rasboras, active li'l fish, grow to about an inch and a half, white and black. You've also got tiger barbs, rainbowfish, corydoras and gouramis. Bosemani Rainbowfish is usually common, beautiful fish, blue/purple and gold. They grow to 4 inches and are schooling. Tiger barbs are fin nippers and are best kept with only other tiger barbs. They grow to 3 inches and need groups of about 8, or else they'll kill each other. Cories I see you have, pandas are my personnal favorite. And gouramis... many many kinds. I like Pearl gouramis, they grow to 4 inches, very laid back and peaceful. They can be kept solitary, in a trio, or in shoals. Dwarf gouramis are another poplular favorite, best kept singularly or in trios. They are smaller, and their max size is, I think, 2 inches. Soooooo.... that was just a few of the most popular fish... There's all kind that aren't seen much but are just as good, if not better. Try going to your lfs adn seeing what they have.
