Hi, This is my first time here , and I am hoping you guys can help me out, I am new to the fish keeping, and very worried about the welfare of my fish. I’d like to apologise for such a long query. Thanks for reading, and I look forward to your advise.

My Set-up:
60 l tank with internal jewel filter., tank cycled in 21 days, its been approx 2 months since I started, all natural plants a few rocks, and bogwood ( haven’t lost a fish yet, don’t want to start now) I currently have the following
2 phantom tetras- small
7 neon’s- small
1 platy small
3 guppies- 1 small(male) 2 large females
2 corys small
3 Japanese alge eating shrimp
4 golden & Dutch rams. Small. ( only got them about a 7-10 days ago)
ph =7.2
kH = 6
GH=14~17 ( tends to be high)
NO2 =0
No3=25
Ammonia = 0

Have been doing regular water tests with the test strips every 2 days , and testra test for ammonia & No2(also nitrite high on the box) every 3 days. Since last two weeks water change approx every 6 days at 20%.

Now two days ago I noticed the golden ram female flicking her self against one of the plants and a rocks that evening the large guppy female did the same thing twice. Yesterday after work , noticed the large guppy doing the same thing repeatedly and the smaller guppy also and the platy.. I did not notice any white spots on any of the fish ,All the fish where eating as normal , the guppies was hanging at the top of the water a lot though. Initially I thought its was ich, went to the lfs , and the guy there said it was not ich but most likely another protozoa called Trichodina, and gave me ‘Interpet no 7’ , which treats velvet and slime. I did a 20% water change and then mixed the right dose and put it in the tank. 10 minutes later I noticed that the two smaller guppies and platy’s eyes ( the bit around the black pupil) had turned black. Is this normal ? . Today before work, the small male guppies eyes where back to normal but the small females guppy and platy where still black but slightly faint , or it could be by the time I realised yesterday the colour ,it was in the evening. So the morning being brighter I be may seeing no change at all.
1) Anyway the query is the medication which I have used is that right to get rid of the disease that my poor fish are suffering from ?
2) Has anyone used the same medication and how did it go ,
3) The leaflet I received didn’t explain much , but am I right in thinking the first dose that I have applied is the only one I use for the next 7 days, and after that what do I do apply another dose ?

Any help appreciated..
Thanks.

The first thing that jumps at me is that your tank looks overstocked by at least a bit. Your fish may be small now (perhaps mostly juveniles), but when they start growing closer to their mature size you're going to have issues, I think.

I'm not an expert on rams, but I do know they are pretty sensitive fish, and prone to fall ill when stressed. Is 60 litres a sufficiently large tank to house two pairs of rams with 18 other community fish? Maybe someone more familiar with rams can offer advice here. (*cough*cichlidaddict*cough*) :p

I've no clue on that medication. I haven't seen anything like that here in the U.S. It sounds to me like you're on the right track, though. If it's not Ich it sounds like something with a similar set of warning signs.

Good luck!

pendragon!

Sorry for the delay in my response, thanks for your advice pendragon, the guppies seems to be fine now, but i think i'll apply the medicine again today. as one of the big female still rubs herself again gravel. Also i noticed that her mouth is a bit dark , looks like dirt or some thing ?? any ideas ? :cool:
