I have two crown bettas, one has those really really long fins and one is short. i'm sure the one with long nice fins is a male but what about the other one? how can i tell if its a male or female? I thought it was a female in the begining but its really really aggressive, flares up like 4/5th of the times when it sees another betta. Could it be a child? it has short fins like the female pictures i saw of crowntails.

Look right behind the ventrals (two hanging fins on the belly) and if it's a female you should see a small white tube/spot called the oviposter. Females still flare and can be just as aggressive as the males so that's not the best way to determine ;)

See the oviposter?

does the white thing have to pop up ?
i see a white thing on mine but it doens't pop up as much as u'r picture...

Do those white things appear on Plakats??I`d like to know just in case I buy a female betta that turns out to be a Plakat

Can a male crowntail look like a female then ? with short fins , looking similar to a male plakat.

All females betta has a white kind like ovary shape close to the bottom fin. Just like Sorrel's showing you her female betta picture. When they ready to breed or laying eggs, you can see the white shape getting bigger and slightly popping out. Yes, all type of betta females has the ovary shape like that at the same spot. :D
Yes, Deoxlar. Below is a picture of a cross breed between crowntail and halfmoon. He is the one do look like plakat too. LOL :p
