Help With Eheim 2234

My media is setup EXACTLY as shown on Eheim's site except for my addition of floss on top of the white pad. For a setup that hasn't the remotest chance of working and a decimated bio colony ( your words ) my free ammonia level miraculously reads 0.001! Once again I will state I DO NOT do monthly cleans. If you think I am doing something wrong then my wrong ways are achieving fantastic results of 0.001 free ammonia levels. Levels that everyone strives for.

ive got that filter and the only thing ive done to it in 3 years is change the white filter stuff on the top canister each month during my water change, i only ever notice the flow dropping when ive left the water change for longer than a month and the white pad starts to get really clogged up.
